@SweetHoneyBee:  Hmm I’ve never heard of the muscle growing over it and it’s definitely never happened to me (I’ve had one for 3 years and currently have one in).  I have read horror stories about the implant getting lost in your arm.. I think it sinks down though, not that the muscle grows over it.  All I can say about that is to make sure that the implant is close enough to the surface that you can feel it.  It doesn’t need to be inserted very deep at all, just below the skin.  Let me know if you have any other questions and I’ll do my best to answer 🙂

@SweetHoneyBee:  It sounds similar to Norplant which I had and did not have that happen.

OP: Have you tried Depo?

You cold use the natural family planning method, there is tons of information about it online, that is what we currently use and no babies yet!

I am in the same boat as you, I have been with my husband for about 8 years (I am 23 now). I have tried every birth control possible except mirena and implanon cause I am weird about implants/anything inside my body. Nothing ever worked. It would be fine until about the 3rd month and then I would be so unhappy, gaining weight, extremely negative, NO sex drive whatsoever and just all around crazy. We now just use the pull out method and condoms for whenever he wants to “go inside”. I am happy to report, it has been almost a year and no babies. My periods are very regular (except when I miss an ovulation due to stress from nursing school) and the condoms do not bother us much. We use the Skyn kind that are not latex. Also, I have a period app on my phone and I always keep track of my symptoms throughout the month to know when ovulation is, etc. It definitely works if you are responsible with it and don’t allow any “woopsies”. Good luck!

I used FAM.   I charted my cycles and followed “Keeping Charge of your Fertility.”   Right now, we are using nothing, we found out that after all of those condoms, pill, charting, he is sterile.
