Hi ladies, I’m a UK bride to be who is getting married in Melbourne next year, (my Fiance is an Aussie).
My Fiance went to Melbourne a few months ago and checked out a number of reception venues and we have now booked and paid the deposit on one. And we have our flights, so thats the two main things done.
I have also got a permit from the council for a ceremony on Brighton Beach.
I was just wondering if any Melbourne brides could offer any advice or recommendations on vendors? Obviously its quite difficult trying to plan from this far away!
Things I’m interested in finding out about are hiring a wedding brooch bouquet, a florist, having my dress steamed (after the 27 hour flight), even things like booking manicures for myself and my bridesmaids.
Oh and of course hiring chairs/wedding arch for the beach ceremony, that’s probably quite a big one!
Any input, advice, recommendations would be very gratefully received!

Well i’m about 3 hours away, but my caterer will be from melbourne =D
I’m really too far away to help much, but if you are having vendors from other areas I may be able to help.
From what i’ve seen Rachelle Holloway is a good photographer (she did a friends wedding and I considered her), i’m pretty sure she’s from melbourne. I also have a friend who recommended a hairstylist from melbourne, I could get their name if you like?

Some Melbourne based hire companies are:
Peninsul party Hire
Having a party?
Harry the Hirer
The wedding zone
I would think that you will be out of luck on hiring a brooch bouquet- there isn’t really a lot of hire shops outside of suits and things like furniture and linens etc here.
Gown steaming isn’t that common here either- usually it is done by the dress shop or designer prior to delivery. You could try a dry cleaner like Brown Gouge but I am not sure if they steam. Your best bet might be buying a hand steamer and doing it yourself.
You will be able to find a manicure place in just about any shopping centre (often more than one) but if you want an in home service here are a couple
one two three

Hello! Sails is a beautiful location, great choice.
I just had my wedding in Melbourne about 3 weeks ago. I had some great vendors!
Hair and Makeup – The MakeUp Maid. Two ladies came to the house and did hair and makeup for 5 of us, and we were all really happy with the results.
Nails – We got them done at Tips and Toes (a chain with branches everywhere) the day before, and it was good
Celebrant – Charis White. Super nice lady, very organised, and wonderful on the day. Some guest said she was the best celebrant they had seen!
Good luck, six months is plenty of time – I booked most of my things (apart from venue) about 3 months out.

I’m a Melbourne bride to be and a New-Bee! Sails is a gorgeous venue, it was my number 1 choice for a beachish venue, but we decided to go with a garden venue instead!
as far as vendors, I’ve found Kate at the cake table (you guys are name twins) was AWESOME for my engagement cake http://www.thecaketable.com.au/ , and I LOVE LJ our photographer, she’s done so amazing brighton beach pictures before, is the nicest lady i’ve ever met, and is very reasonably priced. http://www.catchthemomentphotography.com.au/

thanks Melbourne Bees!
now that Christmas and New Years is over suddenly realised that I’m getting married in about 12 weeks, panic ststations!
i just started a thread about wedding invitations and got some great tips, now I just thought that as all the invitations are going to be sent to Australia, perhaps we could get them ordered and sent from Australia instead of here in the uk and then posting.
Anyone know of a company that could do that if we supplied all the names and addresses, invitation text etc?
otherwise there are some really cute DIY invite kits we can order here and then post over there ASAP

I don’t know about posting them, but I’m working with an amazing lady from Ambry Courture Inviattions on our invites and she names and adresses them for you! So I dont see why she wouldnt also stick the stamps on and take them to the post office, if you asked nicely. her website is……
