@brokeninnj:  hi there!  i’m having what i would call a “budget wedding” but it’s quite a bit more than $5000.  but, i just added everything up and took out the things i “splurged” on, and i think you could definitely do it if you cut corners! and girl do i know all about cutting corners.  i’m BROKEINNJ too!  (well, broke in brooklyn, but the wedding is in NJ 😉

here is my cost breakout for our brunch wedding at Sayen Gardens in Hamilton, NJ:

stationery- $150.  we used vistaprint for std postcards, which we didn’t really have to do.  we bought a printable invite set online for $10 (this included the std but i didn’t really like it), and printed everything out ourselves.  i did use my work printer, so ink is not factored in here.  but this includes cardstock and envelopes sent out to 39 addresses with extra cardstock for programs and place cards.

flowers- $100.  i’m not picky when it comes to flowers, so we plan on heading over to trader joe’s the day before the wedding and assembling bouquets and centerpieces ourselves.

photographer- $500.  this was the cheapest photographer we could find.  i am not sure where in NJ you are, but my i’m using JennRo Photography.  you can google her, she’s a sweetheart and my shooter, Eileen, takes great photos.

music- $525.  we are using our iPad for reception music but we are splurging on a string trio to play during the ceremony and cocktail hour.

food/booze- $3,800.  this number is based on a brunch buffet for 90 guests and is also including beer, wine, mimosas, and bloody marys.  i over-shot on my guesstimate for booze because well, our friends and family are animals.

event location- $955.  this includes the fee to rent our location for 5 hours (Sayen House & Gardens in Hamilton, NJ) plus chair rental for the ceremony.  all other rentals (tables, linens, etc) are included in the rental location fee.

my getup- $590.  this includes my wedding dress (impressions abbey bought for $560 at a sample sale and $30 for my sale shoes at lord & taylor).  this does not include alterations, which i have no idea what will cost me.

his getup- $300.  he’s probably going to purchase a suit, probably around this price.  but who knows, he might end up renting and this number will go down a lot.

gifts & favors- $150.  this budget is for gifts to our attendants plus favors.  i have no idea what we’re doing for either!

accomodations- $200.  hotel room for 2 nights.  i’m staying in a hotel room the night before the wedding and fiance is joining me the night of.

officient- $325

day of coordinator- $200

wedding rings- $1,000

my hair & makeup- $200 (includes trials)

gratuity to our vendors- $1,000

honeymoon- $2,500.  we’re getting the hell out of here and going to mexico for 7 nights.

total- $12,495

anything not included here (like centerpieces, etc.) i’m DIYing.  i saved up our salsa jars, which are mason jars, over the year we’ve been engaged and am making our centerpieces out of them!

let me know if you have any questions- i hope this helps!

loving this thread! i’m trying to do without and plan simple (no flowers, friend to DJ, etc) but it still seems to be adding up to way more than i thought! still figuring things out though.

i think we’re going with the rent a space and get catering option.
