Well I am half American, marrying an Australian, but my mum was Australian and married an American. They met in a hostel in Cairns in the mid 80s. Mum was on holiday with her mother, was going to go to somewhere else from where they were staying, but Mum decided to go to Cairns while my grandmother went to where they were originally going. My dad was on holiday from the States visiting one of his sisters who had moved here a couple of years before. He spent a few days in Cairns and met my mother. Then he came over a few more times to visit her before moving over to be with her. I love their story ๐Ÿ™‚

@BeeOi:  We met in Oz, he has never been to the US and neither of us has ever lived outside Queensland, Australia. I just thought my parents’ story was good for this thread, they have been married 24 years this year ๐Ÿ™‚ I have always loved their story and they have such a great relationship, I hope Fiance and I have that good of a relationship when we are married that long!

I’m Australian wife married to an American husband. We met in Sydney (he was there for work) and still live together in Australia. We’re half way through the spouse visa process and plan to move to USA once the process is complete.

@leecy87:  K1. We filed mid August, and recieved our next set of papers today. Our time from NOA1 to NOA2 was 242 days? But, due to a whole range of circumstances, people who filed from July – Oct last year and ended up being filed in California took a long time. If all goes well, we hope to get the visa by August, putting the process at 11 months (incidentally – a lot of movies where the process takes 8 seconds infuriate me :p )

@BeeOi:  I’m still in Japan at the moment, filing through Tokyo. My Japanese visa expires August 1st, so I’ll have to look at a visa extension or getting my case transferred to New Zealand if it doesn’t come through by then!

And yes. Visa paperwork = not fun. Not fun at all!

@BeeOi:  On the plus side, I’ve found it’s made me a very unpicky bride. If it exists and is in my budget, decision made. I am hoping to look at one venue, photographer etc ๐Ÿ˜‰
