I’ve been dress shopping at two places, one of them twice, and it’s like when I have the dresses on I feel like I like some of them, but after I look at photos of me in them, I tend to not like them so much.
Here are the finalists so far, but again I’m having “photo remorse” about liking them.
All are within a couple hundred dollars in price.
Can you tell me which of these looks best, if any, or if I should keep looking, and what styles you might recommend for me. I wear a street size 18 or 20, am only 5’3″ and I’m in my mid 40s, so I’ve got a lot going against me!
Dress 1 – I think it’s an Allure 2564. I thought it gave me a nice hourglass figure – waist really comes in nicely. In the pic I’m holding up the bottom a bit to show what it would look like adjusted for my height (I’m also standing ona 6-inch platform so I look taller than I am). The hemming would be not at the bottom, to save the detail of the pickups (I never thought I’d want pickups! But for some reason I did like them in this dress. Been looking at too many photos of those Vera Wangs with the giant flower skirts?)
But maybe this dress is too fancy and youthful for me. I also wonder if the skirt bottom will make the dress look really dated in photos a few years from now.
Dress #2 – I think it’s also an Allure, but I don’t know the number (Anyone got the number for this one? I couldn’t find it on my salon’s website) Basically a mirror image of Dress 1, except it doesn’t have the bottom pickup flowers. This one would be hemmed from the bottom, which I think might be the wrong proportion for me, because I’m short (in the photo for this one I’m standing on a 6-inch platform). For some reason I liked this one less when it was on, but I like it a bit better in photos than I thought.
Both dress 1 and 2 are satin and a bit heavy. Dress 1 is very heavy at the bottom.
Dress 3 – From David’s Bridal. It’s style 9T9948. It’s tea length (in the photo I’m trying to hold up the skirt to get an idea of how the right length would look on me because I’m short. The skirt does flare out nicer in real life, but I’m holding it up so it’s a bit weird). This dress felt more fun, but not as bridal. Also I’d definitely need to wear good shoes and with high heels (I never wear high heels).
Dress 4 – David’s Bridal. It is style 9T9612. When I had it on I loved it a lot. I’m not liking the photos as much as I hoped to. I like the V neck a lot. The photos don’t show up the sparkle beading as much as I thought it would – the beading looks pretty, but is a bit subtle with the lace.
Any thoughts? I did try on more dresses than these (probably about 12 across both places), but these seemed to be the finalists.
Should I keep looking? What styles would you recommend for me? Any dresses in particular? I don’t really have a set-in-stone budget. All these dresses are in the $550-$800 range, and I do like the pricing there, but I can afford quite a bit more if I wanted to spend it.
