I bought mine from Gemvara.com

It’s a really cool site that lets you pick the design, the gemstones, and the metal you want to use, then choose a custom engraving.  I played around on it for HOURS.

When I got my ring, the first thing I noticed was that my green amethyst wasn’t nearly as green as the photos on the site.  I told them about this, and they actually promptly changed the colour on the site for me.  It’s not a huge deal, I still love the colour.  I was impressed that they acted so quickly once I said something.

It’s also cool that you can see real reviews on each piece from customers, and see pics of how they customized their jewelry.

I also guessed on my ring size, and it was much too big.  I take all the blame for that, though, and they resized it for free (I just paid shipping one way)

@dessilove:  Darling Husband and I both bought our rings online from Zales, they were online only items so we bought them without seeing them or trying them on first.  We had a few problems with the in-store branch we work with but overall are very happy with our purchases!

@jaia07:  +1 on the Gemvara

Darling Husband got my engagement ring on Gemvara. I basically sent him a link with all the specs.

From what I know of DH’s experience, the service was impeccable, and I love my ring.

We got my ring from MoissaniteCo’s website. My fiance had an issue with them shipping out my ring a day later than originally quotted and so the ring didn’t show up in time for his original proposal plan, but aside from that everything went smoothly and the ring is gorgeous.

Fiance bought my ring and matching band online from Blue Nile.  They both had to be resized (TWICE) and both resizings were covered for free.  SUPER thrilled with the purchase, and Fiance loved that he could pick EXACTLY which diamond to put in the setting!

@dessilove:  check out James Allen!! You can see a video of every single stone they sell. I could look at their diamonds for hours, especially their buttery yellows, champagne-colored light browns…..yummy.

We bought mine from moissaniteco.com and had a great experience. I communicated with customer service a lot because I had them make me something semi-custom. It usually took them about 24 hours to respond to my emails, which I feel like is a long time, but they were always polite and informative. I got the exact ring that I was hoping for once they special made it for me. I will definitely be buying from them again!

My husband bought my diamond online from Blue Nile because the local jewelers did not have what he was looking for.  He had a great experience with them and wouldn’t hesistate to buy from them again.

I would be hesitant to drop that kind of money on Etsy. I’ve heard good stories but also some bad ones. If there’s a dispute between you and the seller, Etsy often taps out and encourages you to solve it yourself.

A site like Blue Nile I wouldn’t worry.

We bought mine on Diamonds by Lauren. I made sure to do the proper research first. It has been around for quite a while so I wasn’t too worried. I love my ring!!

Credit cards are your friend when making big purchases like this if something goes wrong, though.

@dessilove:  My Fiance bought my ring from Brilliant Earth and we’ll definitely order our wedding rings from them too. He said it was the best experience ever and wants to buy all jewelry from them forever more…

I bought my diamond online from Whiteflash which is based in Houston Texas.  I am based in the UK so I had to pay import duty.  I then had the diamond set by a Glasgow jeweller called Mappin & Webb.  This in total cost about the same price as a ring in the UK but gave me a ring with a much much  better diamond.

Have a look online at the following good quality online diamond companies: Whiteflash, Good Old Gold, Brian Gavin, Blue Nile and James Allan.  If I had to buy another diamond I would probably choose Brian Gavin.  My diamond is very well cut but having seen photos and reviews I would say that Brian Gavin consistently produces great cuts.  And a great cut means lots of sparkle.

The jewellers were initially very sceptical but were wowed by my diamond.

We got mine from Blue Nile and I’m thrilled with it. We looked at a few local jewelers first and diamonds with the exact same GIA specs were literally half the price at Blue Nile. I also feel like the settings & craftsmanship are really high quality, I highly recommend them!
