Aww sweetie! Your post brought tears to my eyes. What a touching way to honor your grandfather! All of my (and DHs too) grandparents had long passed by our wedding, and we both missed them so much at the wedding (still do). Hugs to you!

I’m sitting here at work crying because of this. This is a beautiful picture and a wonderful way to remember your grandfather. My grandfather died in 2005 and I miss him everyday. Even though we aren’t engaged yet, I try to tell my SO that he needs to appreciate the fact he has all his grandparents left. I would give anything to have my mom’s parents back and for my other grandmother to be back to the way I remember her.

I did! Every year, since the youngest two were babies, my cousins and I take a photo of all of us on the stairs in order of age. We got one on the stairs outside our venue at my mother’s insistence.

I did.  I wanted a picture of the 4 generations of women in my family. Here is me with my mom, grandma and great-grandma.

I lived on a tiny island in Japan for two years.  I was the only foreigner there.  I became very close with many of the islanders.  I had a little army of Japanese grannies who adopted me, and I became BFFs with the mother of a couple of my students.  They were my family for two years.  I invited all of them to the wedding, but I doubted any of them would be able to make it.  However, no less than seven people traveled all the way from middle-of-nowhere Japan to Dallas for my wedding!  Just to give you an idea of how big a deal that was, it’s a thirty-two hour trip one way (once you include travel to the mainland and then travel from there to an international airport in Japan).  Some of them had never even left the country before and had to get passports just for the occasion.  We absolutely had to get a photo of all of us together.  <3

@Meowkers:  That photo is amazing! I would have loved to have one like that at my wedding! My grandmother died just before.  That’s a beautiful picture!

I did, however, get a photo with my entire family! All my cousins, aunts, and uncles! That was pretty special!

I did too. These are photos of all the women on my mom’s side- my grandmother, her 4 daughters, and their 4 daughters (3 whole generations of women). We took a photo of all of us, and my favourite- our hands, based on the notion of “Grandma’s Hands”.
