I have said this time & time again; & I will continue to say it. I love diamonds & have nothing against the ladies out there that truly believe ‘diamonds are a girl’s best friend’.
Here’s my thing though, I personally love color, I would choose a colored gemstone over a diamond any day! My boyfriend & I decided on a blue topaz for me personally. He was pretty upset b/c his dad & other (married) friends told him he would be a ‘cheap ass’ for not getting me a diamond e-ring. Plus, several people have told us, that it won’t even look like an engagement ring due to the lack of a diamond center stone….paaalease people!
For starters, I have fallen in love with almost every swiss blue topaz ring, that swooning doesn’t happen for me w/diamond rings we’ve looked at. Also, I want my ring to stand out!
The other thing is, I truly & personally (no offense intended here bee’s) feel that spending outrageous amounts on a piece of jewelry is a little ridiculous. My life, and marriage is way more important than my ring. I think that sometimes people tend to get caught up on the ring…the wedding…or even the dress. The rings are supposed to symbolize something. Something special, not “who’s got the flashiest, most flawless, most expensive ring”.
All ranting asside. Mr. Chocoholic & I would rather be saving for our future than saving for years for a ring.
Here’s a ring that I have fallen in love with. It’s a Cushion cut blue topaz & tanzanite white gold ring. Did I mention that blue topaz is also Mr. Chocoholic’s birthstone? Perfect for us, I think π
If any of you bee’s have or want a colored gemstone e-ring please post them π

I think Im getting a Moissanite but I did come across this one a few hours ago and it took my breath away- its a blue/green Tourmaline with Diamonds. Its hella expensive, but i would have a jeweler re-create it!

@Mschocoholic: I love the ring picture you posted, it really is lovely! I have a tanzanite engagement ring with diamonds either side and it’s beautiful. Every stone is equally precious, I think that people shouldn’t always associate a diamond ring with an engagement ring, it’s the sentiment and promise that counts. I’ve never had someone not know that my ring is an engagement ring, I think that as long as it’s on the engagement finger people will know π

Here’s my beauty! Sorry about the big picture!

In the Netherlands you don’t get an e-ring at all! It’s something I’m not familiar 2. Diamonds are kinda considered for old people. Even the gemstones.
But I do like the gemstones. I love Aquamarine, Ruby’s and Garnets.
This is the ring I got from my boyfriend:

What I’d love but could never afford… a pink diamond.
I’m definitely a diamond gal but I love color too… colored diamonds make me weak in the knees <3

black diamonds are my 2nd favorite so this would be my “set” tehe.
I have a plain diamond ering so I asked if my Fiance would get me a pink right hand ring for my birthday (thanks to always seeing the lovely bee’s rings tehe)… he let me create the ring of my dreams… (I’d wear it as an ering in a heartbeat and plan to wear it on my ring finger when mine is out for sizing or redipping)

i love coloured stones! always have! . My favourite stone is citrine and my FH proposed with the most beautiful citrine ring! i absolutly love it! its not that he was too cheap to buy me a daimond, but i didnt want that.. so he got me something that he thought would represent us! and i loved it.. i always get compliments on it, and its bigger than all my other friends stones too! lol
but its not a ring that makes a marriage or a diamond!

it also an antique so theres a few little marks in the foto but you cant see them with the blind eye.. it was made in the 1930’s.. makes it a little more romantic..lol π

Here’s my garnet. I’m trying out some new nail art and wanted to take a new pic to go with it. ;P Evidently, I need to clean the setting again.
We felt the same way you do–why spend all that money? My entire set (engagement ring and custom wedding band) cost less than $500, and I couldn’t be happier about it.

Model/site pic. My stone is a little different in color because when I had the setting tightened once, the jeweler chipped the stone and had to order a new one. The one I have now is more pink than purple-toned.

Here is my Aqua. I also wanted a color stone and a natural blue diamond of a larger size with good clarity is way out of our price range. So I chose Aquamarine instead. Which is also FI’s birthstone so it works out perfectly for us too. π

Never wanted a diamond, I always wanted a gemstone ring. When I was a little girl and Lady Di and the Duchess of York got gemstone rings I fell in love with the idea of having a gemstone ring rather than a diamond. Here are some photos of my rings.
In the photo left to right:
1st engagement ring opal. Love it but it’s too big and delicate for daily wear. So we got ring two in the middle my emerald engagement ring. It’s the ring I always dreamed of. Love the opal but save it for special occasions and wear the emerald every day. And then at the end is my aquamarine pre-engagement ring. I love all three of them and wouldn’t trade any one of them for a diamond.

Another shot of the trio plus a few of my stuffed pugs in the background.

Another trio shot.

A shot of just my emerald engagement ring. The center stone is roughly the size of a 1 ct diamond. It’s set in yellow gold and surrounded by 22 tiny diamonds.

There are more pics of my rings here.

I’m getting a 3 stone pink sapphire ring as my 10th anniversary upgrade (first ring was a diamond family ring) that is being made now! Can’t wait to post pics when I receive it!

i’m glad you posted your poll so that you could check multiple options! i chose three of the four options, and almost feel like i could have chosen all four if you hadn’t put the “no” part on the diamond option. really, i love them all. i currently have a colored gemstone ering (well, for the current relationship…the ring isn’t actually in my possession yet…Fiance is holding on to it until the right moment this fall), but i had a diamond with garnet side stones with my previous marriage. i love diamonds, and i love other gemstones too (after all, diamonds are still gemstones), and what says “engagement” to me isn’t the stone in the ring, but the love it represents.
my lovely…she’s an orange sapphire in white gold.

my wedding set with DH1 (i still wear my wedding band on my right hand, and the ering on special occasions)…

I love me some color! My ring is a white sapphire with blue sapphire side stones. DH still wanted to have a “white” stone as the center so it would register to people as an engagement ring. We both love that I have a ring probably no one else has, and is meaningful to us. The fact that he could get a near-perfect quality sapphire for the price of a smaller, lesser quality diamond was a selling point, too.
