@bridalbee93:  Hello! I prefer not to say what salon I work for but it is a family owned business and I love the people I work with and for 🙂  I have so many horror stories… Once again, not sure I should be airing dirty laundry in a public forum so I’ll probably keep the specifics to myself, but I’ve learned to dread opinionated familiy members. Also, it’s become clear to me that men don’t know how tuxedos are supposed to fit. I once had a guy yell and curse at me because his pants were “too baggy”. Sorry pleated tuxedo pants don’t fit like skinny jeans… Mostly I just get frustrated when clients act really entitled and ask us to break rules for them because they are clearly more special than every other bride that walks through the door. I wish brides understood how much we stick up for them and fight for them to have wonderful experiences! Luckily most of my clients are really nice!

Are you getting married? I’m having trouble falling in love with a dress, probably because I’ve been around them nearly every day for more than a year now. Nothing feels “special” to me, and my coworkers who have been through this mostly just said they ended up picking out the thing they felt was most flattering, not necessarily a dress that they felt was “the one.” I’m not expecting to have an overly emotional reaction… But geez, it would be nice to feel EXCITED about getting dressed on my wedding day! Not just “oh, hmm, this is a nice dress. I like it more than 95% of the dresses here. Guess it’ll do!” I’ve had coworkers tell me this is normal, but my friends keep insisting that means I just haven’t found the one yet. I’m not too sentimental, it’s ok if this is part of the process that has been spoiled because of my job, I just want to know if any other consultants have been through this!

@bridalbee93:  Oh yeah, we have people try to bargain with us all the time. I think they don’t realize that we can’t just abritrarily choose prices. Like, we have contracts with companies that bind us to sell dresses at a certain price…  Also when people lie to me about their size. That’s great. You do know I’m about to measure you, right? This isn’t about me judging you, it’s about me getting you a dress that will fit. I’ve had people talk about the dress they’re going to order online during our appointment together… So much insane stuff. I had one woman lie to me about her wedding date because she thought that would mean her dress would get here faster- instead I told her we couldn’t order the dress for her becasuse it wouldn’t get here in time, and she was furious. She finally told me the truth when I kept insisting she shouldn’t try on the dress because the designer was running late and I could not get her the dress in time for her wedding. People accuse me of lying abouts ship dates all the time. But we have a lot of fun, too, those stories just aren’t as good.

I’m a bridal consultant too!! 🙂

It’s the best job in the universe!

I work in a boutique which is in the Midlands in England!

I think my favourite designers have got to be Enzoani, Benjamin Roberts, Amanda Wyatt, Sincerity Bridal, Mark Lesley, and Eliza Jane Howell.

As for horror stories, I have many….but as previous poster already pointed out, it’s probably best not to dirty the air with their stories! haha.

But through working in a bridal boutique, I have learned that some customers will lie, and manipulate and milk you for everything they can!
