@Elvis:  Haha! I laughed for a good minute after that! Tried explaining it to my fiance, but he’s been pretty sheltered from wedding stuff, so it was news to him that we actually needed a theme!

On that topic, I tried passing off wedding planning to fiance (it’s his family that want the big wedding), he looked at one website, said “fuck that shit” and hasn’t spoken about what he saw since. He flinches whenever he sees tulle, and I once caught him rocking back and forth in the corner muttering “Is it aqua or turquoise…I don’t know. I don’t know!” So I figure it was just your normal, run-of-the-mill wedding website.

@caits615:  They are AMAZING. They’re by this guy on Etsy, who you can commission to do personalised ones for you. I had a stall next to him at an event back in May, and I nearly bought one of his standard little robots because they are so gorgeous and well-made, and frankly this is just a million times better.

You can find the listing for them HERE, and more pictures of them all on his blog HERE. I’m totally saving up to buy them myself, because frankly that way no-one can argue with me for getting them. And they’ll go perfectly with my vintage-style Ray Gun that I’ve got on the mantlepiece.

@chronicwhimsy:  These are seriously so freakin’ cute!! Now i have to post ours. We’re not having a cake, so I’m not sure exactly what these will be on top of, but I found them awhile back and I’m determined to use them.

Here’s the topper itself and you can customize everything (skin color, facial hair, suit, dress, color of the banner, etc.)

And then, you send in photos of your pets (in our case, our 2 cats) and they customize them based on the photo to add to your topper (they then donate a % of proceeds to a local rescue).

@caits615:  Oh those are cute! Could you maybe incorporate them into the centrepiece on the top table where you and your FH will be sitting? So they know it’s your table?

I care so little about this stuff that, if I had my way, we’d be eloping – FH insists though that he must have a proper wedding!  Seriously he’s way more into having a wedding than I am!  He’s left the decorating up to me, which he may regret.  I’m thinking butcher paper for the table linens; the “centerpieces” will be whatever old glassware my mother has in her closet with some random flowers bought that morning at the grocery store… and that’s it!

Umm, believe it or not, I actually had this problem with Fiance, he bought 2 different vests in 2 different shades of ivory and he asked me to tell which one is closer colour to my dress 🙂 He kept on asking about the bridesmaid dresses colour, he wanted the light blue to match the light blue of the groomsman’s tie. He asked the same thing, what shade of light blue? I told him, ‘Like the sky, darling. Like the sky…’ (while pointing dramatically to the sky) I have one groomzilla on the loose…

Im confused by something you said…”Im only doing this because I have to..” – why do you HAVE to? You dont! If you really dont care and you really dont want to do it, then why?? Why not just do the legal bit and have a meal out in a nice restuarant or something or not have colours and just have table and chairs…??

Lol, I didn’t care about much! Day of I had a million people running up to me with questions and I’d go “I don’t care.” And they would be like “you’re allowed to care! You’re the bride!” to which I’d reply “I’m allowed to not care, too.” Lol.

My kindred spirits! I first came across these boards because I was searching the internet looking for non-model photos of dresses I liked. Apparently nobody wears the simple styles from Nicole Miller or J. Crew, or at least the specific dresses I like. I started reading the boards because I figure I would learn to care. I haven’t. I have learned that fiance damn well appreciate the fact that I am not a wedding crazy nut bag! I didn’t even care about getting married up until a few months ago; I would seriously hate myself if I was one of those women obsessing over a proposal.

I wanted to rent out our favorite restaurant and just have a cocktail party. I mean seriously, isn’t the only reason people go to weddings is because of the food and alcohol? Let’s cut to the chase! Man friend comes from a big, tight family so the cocktail party in a tiny restaurant was out. Not a big deal, all I knew was that I wanted to mumble a couple of words and drink wine for the rest of the night, setting be damned.

We are getting married at an inn. It’s nice enough for the family, simple enough for me. And it has a spanking suite with a jacuzzi tub. Aside from venue, photographer, and my outfit, what else is there to care about? Nothing! Have fun! My stepmom is helping me with the planning and my automatic response is “I’m cool with whatever.” Because I am cool with whatever. Seriously. Have fun, tell me when to show up. Just make sure my favorite scotch is there because I am having one!

Linens, who the fuck cares? I can go to the grocery store and buy a pack of 200 napkins for $1.

Flowers? Anything that’s alive, please.

Nope, I don’t much care either!! I like hanging out here on the boards and checking out pretty stuff, though… but for my own wedding, nope. I want us, on the beach, me in a simple chiffon dress, a bad ass photographer, only the *very* *closest* friends/fam…. the take everyone out to dinner somewhere nice. BAM! done. I don’t care about my shoes, centerpieces, brides, reception parties, decorations….. gahhhhh shoot me! My head would explode.

@kittenbojangles:

OMG this thread and preceeding ones make me laugh so much. All of you anti-brides are just too funny!

I really think that you all have the right idea–identify the one or two things that really matter, otherwise–write a check to have someone else plan your “dream wedding” (ha haha that comment was hilarious) becuase your dream is to arrive with your groom at a nice venue with you in a pretty dress and have a fun time at the beautiful party that someone else planned.

It reminds me of my own non-wedding. We just got married at the courthouse. Both sets of our parents wanted to “do something ” i.e. receptions.  I said: fine let me know time and place, we will show up. When my mother wanted  to consult me about details (colors, etc) I shut that crap down and said “mom, your party. You choose. I don’t care.”

You girls are my spiritual daughters.
