I can’t believe it! We have been married six months and I gained 17 pounds while DH gained 30 since the wedding!
Before the wedding we were just so busy and were remodeling the house so even though we weren’t at the gym every day, we were doing physical labor. Also, I never drank during the week and now I find us enjoying a beer or a glass of wine together any time we chose.
If only you could lose weight as fast as you put it on! Looks like it’s back to the gym and counting calories!

Damn. My comment was eaten! We’ll try this again…
I’m with you. I’m up 10 lbs and I think it was closer to 15 over the holidays. I actually hit the heaviest I’ve ever been. That was a rude awakening as I hadn’t realized I had put that much weight on. Really not fun. Unfortunately, that still hasn’t motivated me to get active. Hopefully once it warms up and the snow melts off….

I gained weight leading up to the wedding (I stress eat so that’ll do it) and continued to gain after the wedding (job stress now). I’ve started working out a lot more though so things are starting to move back in the right direction.

I have noticed this trend in a lot of married friends. I’m hoping not to go there myself, I guess we’ll see what happens in a couple of months! It does make sense that you would gain weight once you’re not super busy and stressed with wedding plans all the time!

AH yes, I gained 15 pounds and I hate it. I knew I was gaining for awhile but just was in denial. I finally got on the scale over the weekend and was so disgusted. I started my diet on tuesday, so far lost 2 pounds, but I know it’s only water weight and I have to really keep it up!
I need to start working out and running again, and eating better. My DH and I have been eating out a lot because of our work schedules and I am huge foodie so I eat way too much!

I remember (pre marriage) hearing about how couples gain weight after they get married, i was always like “what the heck…why?!!” Yeah…well…married 7 months now and have gained weight like there is no tomorrow! same with DH…and i still ask “What the heck??!!”

I am hoping it doesn’t happen to me, but I think it’s a pretty common phenomenon. I have watched almost all my friends gain weight after getting married. One actually did the opposite, gained weight before the wedding and lost it after, but I think she is an exeption.

@caitlanc- It’s funny you say that it still hasn’t motivated you, I can’t seem to be motivate either I just know I need to.
@FutureKMM- Glad to hear things are going a lot better.

I gained weight and hit my heaviest weight a year after the wedding. It was definitely a wake up call to see the scale and I kicked my butt into gear and lost all the post wedding wedding weight (18 lbs) and got to my goal weight in about 6 months.

Yes I did but I have lost the extra pounds and then some!

I’ve gained 9lbs. Ugh. I’ve been more busy after than before the wedding and we’re eating out a lot more.

ME! At the wedding I was 120 lbs and now I’ve gained 30 since then. Yeah, I wasn’t too happy about it and I’ve made a point to stop weighing myself! But I kind of think I look a little better since all the weight went to the “feminine” areas. I never knew this was common until it happened to me!

15 lbs here since October, still trying desperately to get it back off but I’m just not as motiviated.. I have been trying the new WW Online Points Plus but I don’t like their new system, I was successful on the old system.. I also signed up for Curves, Groupon had a deal for $59 for a 2 months Membership.. I’m been preparing myself all week to start Monday after work..

In our first year of marriage, I gained quite a bit of weight because we were no longer working towards the wedding and buying a condo. Things finally settled down for us and we gained weight. This year, we’re focused on losing weight, making lunches, doing necessary appointments since we have the goal of getting pregnant around our 2nd anniversary.

@baileyh- I didn’t believe anyone either. I never gained the freshman 15 or anything like that so I thought I’d be fine. Now I eat more and work our less!
