My fi and I are planning on getting married in Punta Cana! We are very excited. I have tons of questions for brides planning their wedding or who already got married there. We have a budget of 15,000 if we could keep it around 10 that would be amazing! That will include hotel and airfare for us and our two kids for 10 days, activities, my dress and his outfit, guest gifts, wedding package, our rings, invitations and small other odds and ends.
What was your budget how many people are coming to your wedding? How long are you staying for? What resort are you staying at? We already talked to our travel agent and we love the Paradisus Resort. Are you bringing your own photographer or are you using the resorts?
We were thinking about doing of justice of peace here before we go and just have the symbolic ceremony because if we did the civil ceremony we would have to be there 3 business days before the wedding day and have two guest as a witness. I just feel like that would be a big hassle especially when we will be having our kids with us. Is anyone else doing that or are you doing it the civil way?
Any other information that you care to share would be amazing.
Happy planning bees!

@mytwolovebugs85: Me! Still looking for a resort though, so I’ll be watching this thread. So many to choose from and they all have a fair amount of horrible reviews on tripadvisor no matter how high the rating…so I’m scared.

Hey ladies. I’m getting married in DR on Jan 15, 2013 @ the Melia Caribe which is part of the Paradisus chain. I started by setting a budget of $1500 as the most I would want my guests to spend to attend my wedding, and had about 4 travel agents giving me quotes via email competing which each other and for that week got the price down to $1430/person which I am very happy with.
I’ve seen the negative reviews on tripadvisor but am reassured because my fiance’s brother got married at this resort over 5 years ago and everything went fine. His very well off family also raved about how beautiful the resort was so if it’s good enough for them I’m sure I’ll be happy with it.
We are using the resorts photographer becase the resort will charge a $1000 copyright fee for another to come take pictures but I have heard other resorts only charge around teh $600 mark. I am so grateful that these blogs and facebook pages exist because I have only heard good reviews and have seen all their work on thier facebook page and am happy with what I see.
You actually only have to be there 2 business days prior to the wedding date if you wish to have a civil ceremony, but the wedding coordinators have recommended over and over to have the ceremony here in Canada and just do a symbolic ceremony there. PERSONALLY I felt I couldn’t drag people to the DR to witness a symbolic ceremony so I am doing it legally in the DR and yes it is coming with a ton of paperwork to do ahead of time but oh well.
I have 51 guests to date and so far will cost me about $11,000 which includes our stay for the week. We would stay longer of course but are planning to go to Europe the following summer so I’d rather a bigger budget for that. I am sure I will opt for some upgrades in terms of bouquets and decorations but I don’t forsee me going over the 12k mark.
I too will be following this thread, always looking for tips on how to personalize the wedding since there is only so much decorations you can fit in your suitcase!

@dominicanbride16: Does that price include airfare?
Abt the photog, FYI for other brides – normally the resorts don’t charge a fee if the vendor is your guest – i.e. staying a night at the hotel. Paying for a night is much cheaper than paying the $1000 and you get to have the vendor you want.
That’s what we’re doing since we had planned a local wedding for 8 months before deciding to switch to a Destination Wedding.

Our wedding is in April at Barcelo Punta Cana. Our photog is coming with us. The hotel said it is OK as long as he is a guest at the hotel. Will are arriving Wed and getting married Sat. Our reception will be when we get home. The only people coming with us are the bridal party and our parents.
The travel agency we worked with gave our guests the option of the number of days they wanted to stay so some are only coming for 3 nights, some for the whole trip. For the 3 nights in a regular room it came out to less than $300 for the room. We don’t have airfare yet.
