I am a second year Middle school SpED teacher and trying to plan most of my wedding before the beginning of the school year since IEPs, students and parents will be keeping me very busy throughout the school year and my wedding is in June. So far, I have a lot of the wedding outlined, just need to get started on DIY (might wait to do that as weekend projects). However, I am worried that by next year I will regret all of the choices I have made this summer (the dress, centerpieces, flowers, decorations, etc.) fellow teachers, are/did you try and do most of the planning over the summer?

Here is another SpEd teacher…..
I did most of my planning/diy-ing during the school year. A little bit every weekend.

I’m a first year SPED teacher (this will be my first year) but I have lots of friends who are teachers/school counselors. I know they planned throughout the school year and had June/July weddings. I know they didn’t change their mind on things they wanted to do.
Best of luck!

I got engaged in May 2011 and our wedding was in March 2012, over spring break. I’m a school psych and my husband’s a teacher. We did all the major things over summer, thanksgiving, and christmas breaks (vendor meetings, venue visits, dress shopping, tuxes, flowers, cake tasting, etc) and then the rest throughout the school year. Things that I could easily do after work and on weekends, like invitations, booking hotel, transportation, decor choices, mostly little things.

I’m a teacher’s aide in a SpED classroom. Thats part of the reason we are getting married this aug. Since I work in a school and hes finishing up college. Because I’m taking this summer off so I can get all the stuff done. But when I was going to work I did stuff in the evenings and on the weekends.

We got engaged in December and are getting married at the end of this month, so most of our planning was done on the weekends or after work. One thing that really helped us was that we used our two weeks of winter break (he’s an engineer, and his company shuts down), and had vendor appointments almost every day. Sometimes we had two appointments in the same day, but in the two weeks, we had signed for our ceremony and reception venues, photographers, florist, chair covers, and chairs for the ceremony. Get all the big things out of the way first, and the little things you can do progressively over time.
Don’t worry about changing your mind, you’re a teacher, which means that you’re flexible and you can handle change!! Things will work out, and your wedding will be great!

Add another SpEd teacher here! I just finished my 2nd year and got engaged last June- wedding coming up next week. I don’t think there is a lot of time to 2nd guess choices you make this summer– I wasn’t able to do much wedding stuff during the school year (yeah, here and there, but definitely not a lot of time was spent thinking about it!). Plus, by the time you’re done with school next year, you’ll hit the ground running and just finish up what you’ve been working on. That’s how I did it anyway- planned July and August last year, and then spent all of this June working on finalizing things.

I teach primary school. I didn’t want a summer wedding so we are getting married in the christmas holidays and delaying the honeymoon until easter.

I got engaged in September 2010 and married in July 2011…I would say the bulk of the wedding was planned over Christmas and spring breaks. DH also was great about helping with a lot of the DIY stuff on weekends. Go ahead and start on some stuff now, but enjoy your break, too!

I am (yet another) SpEd teacher! Wow I am surprised to see so many! I am “waiting” but I just wanted to say how fun it was to see all these teachers here 🙂

The sad thing is, there is only so much you can do in advance. All the little, time consuming things are to be done in the weeks running up to the wedding. I’m also a teacher and I only have 1 week between the end of term and the wedding but I’ve used all the small holidays in between to sorrt most things.
Good luck 🙂
