I would go to http://www.crossdressers.com – it’s probably the most inclusive gender forum I’ve found online, and I know I have seen a couple people plan their weddings with a bit of input there.

What is non-binary? I’ve never heard that term before.

I have a good friend who is trans, who identifies with neither gender. I went to their wedding which was a wonderful outdoor celebration in the park with a good friend officiating. zhe wore dress pants and a vest with bright converse sneakers and the bride wore a casual dress also with bright converse. People brought food and gifts and we celebrated with a big picnic afterwords. It was lovely!

Good luck with your planning!

I’m not but second the offbeat bride recommendation. (Although it has ‘bride’ in the name, but definitely not all for women.) I’d also suggest that there are a lot of traditions, etc that are not dependent on gender or do not need to be. IE catering, venue, decorations, etc… it doesn’t matter what’s in someone’s pants, we all need to eat and sit and such. Also check out Steven Petrow at the Washington Post and on facebook. He answers a lot of questions about changing etiquette and traditions outside of the traditional gender roles. Everything from which side of the venue to sit on when it’s not bride/groom, to who pays for what, to attire. http://www.washingtonpost.com/people/steven-petrow Or he’s also on facebook.

Really, though, do what your and your fiance/e love and what feels natural and right for you as a couple. That’s really all most of us are doing.

MadsTheGallifreyan:  I am bi and gender fluid! Not quite trans. I usually go by female pronouns but sometimes Igo by male ones too. Hugs! I find off beat bride is a good source and don’t feel alone!

MadsTheGallifreyan:  Echoing PPs. Offbeatbride is a great resource for alternative gender situations in relation to weddings. But I also agree that a lot of the wedding planning stuff isn’t really gender specific, so I hope the bee can be helpful, as well! I’m female and straight but a good friend just started transitioning from male to female and so I’m trying to do some research on people that are trans, so that I can be supportive as possible (though, so far, in my estimation, that seems to be “Congratulations!” then going about life as ususal with occasional questions about how the process is going, so not really much). Overall I find the Bee to be a great community and people are ususally pretty supportive of different gender/sexuality, even if we can’t give advice from direct experience. Good luck!

Aquaria:

Non binary refers to gender identities that are outside of the binary norms of male and female.

amiona:  Meaning besides male, female, and transgender there’s more? Gee you really learn something new each day. At the moment I am totally lost.

check out the “On a bicycle built for two” website… I know there are a fair amount of gender nonconforming weddings featured on there!

cheers and happy wedding planning!
