We’re 26/28 and having a small wedding where we live now (less than 20 people) which is a few hours away from my hometown.  We are having a casual picnic after in my hometown about a month later, but I think I would have been fine skipping that too!  I feel more comfortable with less people and I get to spend more time getting to talk to those closet to me.

@CasperBoats:  Thanks very much!

Also @ OP, I know 88 guests isn’t intimate by some standards, but it is for my family!

I’m 26 and we’re having less than thirty people coming. I originally wanted to elope but I’m happy with the small number of guests coming 🙂

I’m 20 (yes I know I’m very young but I’ve been with my guy 7 years) and we’re planning a destnation wedding in Cuba with only about 20 people! I know exactly what you mean and I even thought most of my life I wanted the big party and stuff but when I started planning I’ve realized there are few people that would be really important to have present. We have very different families and even though they all get along we know there will be no pleasing everyone and after all the day is just about us becoming husband and wife! I say more power to you and what ever makes you and your hubby to be feel special on that day is exactly what you should do, never mind what you ‘should be’ feeling or doing! Congrats and good luck!

I’m 24 (FI is turning 28 a few days after the wedding). We’re having a sort of desination wedding about 3 hrs between our two families. We’re inviting 75 people but expecting closer to 40 or so to actually go. We’re skipping a lot of the traditional stuff for ours. We’re renting a house on a lake and asking people to stay for a few days to enjoy upstate NY.

We’ll be 22/25 when we have a small destination wedding. There’s nothing wrong with wanting intimate, it’s your day! I’ve never enjoyed the traditional weddings with the big, boring receptions, so we are doing something much more small and it’s exactly what we want.

Not quite as young (28) but still in my twenties and also doing a destination :). Congratulations on your engagement and your upcoming Destination Wedding, you will have so much FUN!

I’ve sometimes had similar feelings, i.e. what I “should” and “should not” be doing or wanting. At the end of the day, though, the day is a celebration of the life of you and your partner and nothing else matters. Advice is great but at the end of the day, personally I think sticking to your vision and knowing your personality is a lot more important.

I love intimate weddings, since you’re celebrating this big day with people you’re nearest and dearest to! We’re having 40 and I can’t imagine going too much above that; weddings with hundreds of guests boggle my mind!

We’ll be 22/23 when we get married on 4-24-14. We’ll be together for over 6 years. We want to have a “planned elopement” I’m not sure where becuase we haven’t decided yet. We’re from New York but I’m loving the idea of getting married in New Orleans. At first I thought of having a big wedding  beacuse that is what is expected by everyone that we know but quickly realized that it wasn’t “me”. My Fiance and I decided that a small wedding would be good(25 people max)but we’ve recently decided that we plan to elope.

Honestly, you should do what feels right for you and your Fiance. It’s your wedding and the start to your marriage. Whatever you anf your Fiance feel that is important or special should be done. Don’t let anyone pressure you to do something that you don’t want to do just because” you have to have this” or ” if you do this it’s not a real wedding”,etc.

I recommend reading a book called A Practical Wedding by Meg Keene.

Happy Planning! 🙂

I am 26 (is that still considered young?) and we are having an intimate wedding of about 50 people. We knew we wanted a small wedding and  so we just began planning that way. I did sorta feel like I should be having this big production and spending tons of money but its just not us. We are really laid back and wanted our wedding to reflect that. I agree with PP that you should go to intimateweddings.com it really helped me feel good in our decision to keep it small.

I’m 24 and my guy is 28 – I’m pretty sure when it comes time (we’re not yet engaged, but we talk about this stuff) we’ll do a courthouse wedding/elope and i’m really excited that it’ll be just about the two of us. 😀

I’ve never been a bridey bride and i guess i may feel a little guilty not having a huge wedding, but we can always throw a big party later! haha

Hi! I am 28 my Fiance is 27 and we are doing an intimate destination wedding in Mexico. I want a smaller wedding (we have a total guest list of about 16) but the sooner it approaches the weirder it feels. I am worried my guests wont have fun. We are doing the whole ceremony, cocktails and dinner. I am afraid that with only 16 people no one will really want to dance. Problem is, I dont want my wedding to just end after dinner and cake. We will be at a resort, so not a lot of nightlife nearby. Any suggestions of what we can do to entertain our guests, something to make it special??

My Fiance and I keep going back and forth on how to have our wedding. I’m 24 and he’s 23. After we first got engaged we planned on having a intimate Destination Wedding wedding then the more we thought about it we thought we might want a more traditional wedding. So the past couple months we’ve been planning the traditional route. Wellll that’s not working out lol It’s turning out to be so stressful and we’ve been realizing that it’s simply not us AT ALL! So we’re back on for the intimate Destination Wedding now with about 15-20 people. We’re excited :] Do whatever is true to who you are as a couple!

I am 22. I will be 23 exactly a week after I get married on October 12th. Fiance will be 23 exactly one week before the wedding. We aren’t having a destination wedding, but it will be small and intimate. Our guest list is made up of 80 people, most of which live out-of-state, since Fiance and I moved from NJ to IN after graduating high school to attend college. So, of the 80 invited, we expect about 50 guests, which is fine by us. We wanted a very intimate, family wedding, and nothing too over-the-top, which is just not us.
