I would be worried about liability in a case like this.  I would definitely use a licensed bartender.

I didn’t go. But my Mom went to a wedding last summer that was in a tent, in the middle of a field. It was gorgeous and she said that they had a self-serve bar there. They had a few premixed drinks and then mixers and alcohol all on a table for the guests to serve themselves. My mom said she liked it!

Since its a lunch reception… I think you’ll be fine and it will work out great. And the fact that it’s just wine and beer will work out even better.

@MonPetite:  My aunt did this at her wedding. It was outdoors and they had a huge canoe that they filled with ice and then a variety of bottled beer. There was also champagne in there and wine on the tables to go with dinner. It worked out well for her!

I think this idea kind of scares me but I’m not sure why? Also who is going to replenish the bar?

A nice idea might be a few drink containers of things like sangria where guests can refill

What type of decor are you having?? what about getting a barrel planter and filling that up? or something like this if you’re doing rustic (not exactly like this.. but you get the idea)

or this?

Edit: I just saw this.. and once again it’s rustic themed… lol but has the potential to be dressed up a bit and super cute

Oooh, I’m thinking of doing this as well. But it will be on my parents’ property. I’m planning on wine, beer, sangria, champagne, and other non-alcoholic beverages. The only concern I have is liability. I have to look more into it. But I love the idea. I know my family/guests won’t mind serving themselves/digging for cans of beer in ice.

@MonPetite:  I’m sure you can find planters that look like the pic that have metal/plastic inserts. or you could line it with plastic (staple it to the inside? so it’s not seen?) would the serving trays hold the ice well?? I would think they’d get melty and then drip onto the tables
