Hey! I dropped off my wedding dress (a vintage family heirloom) to be cleaned at this place: http://www.yelp.com/biz/french-hand-laundry-and-dry-cleaning-pasadena
They told me they would call me when it was done in a couple weeks. When almost a month had passed with no word, I called them back and the phone just rang and rang. I chalked it up to them being closed on Wednesdays or something. Annoying but plausible. I called back again today and got the same thing.
I’m leaving in about 20 minutes to go out of town for 8 days. Is there ANYONE who lives near this place who can do a drive-by and just see WTF is going on? Are they on vacation? Are they closed? If they are closed, did they send their garments to another nearby cleaner for people to pick up?
Honestly, it’d be REALLY nice if they had an answering machine or voicemail or something for when they can’t answer the phone. I’m trying not to freak out, but the panic is rising nonetheless.
Please, please, please someone help me out so I can enjoy my vacation.

The place is really reputable and there’s no way it would go out of business and keep your dress.
OK – just called them. They are in today and will be all week. They were closed last week on vacation. I’m surprised they didn’t tell you that when you dropped it off.

You rock, Oracle, I was planning to do a drive-by for Bux. 🙂

THANK YOU! That is so sweet of you to call on my behalf. I really appreciate it!
I did finally get hold of them on Tuesday, after trying them multiple times on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Monday. I assume they didn’t tell me they’d be on vacation because I dropped the dress off sooo long ago. It’s more surprising that they didn’t call to tell me when it was done (it is), and that they don’t have an answering machine. I definitely spent a few panicky days thinking of alternatives in case the place had burned down or something. But I am just relieved I will not have to hire a search party to find the dress before the wedding!!

Glad to hear everything worked out. I used them to press my dress for the wedding… they did a GREAT job! I get the impression that they’re very “mom and pop”… they don’t even use regular dry cleaning tickets which made me kinda nervous. But they surely delivered the goods! 🙂

@Bux: I drove by there a few times this weekend, and kept thinking of you and your dress 😉 were you happy with the way it turned out (minus the heart-attack, of course!)? I’ve never used them before, but was planning to for my dress

I have mixed feelings about how it turned out. My dress had one large stain on the bodice, which they got out really well. But there were a couple other spots on the dress, which I didn’t point out to them (because I was too distracted with the big stain) which are still there. I mean, they are teeny tiny stains, but I would think for how much it costs, they either would have gotten them out or they would have said “We weren’t able to get these out, sorry” when I picked it up, just so I would have known they tried. I didn’t see them until after I got home, or maybe I would have made more of a stink about it. The dress is vintage so I don’t expect it to be in like-new condition and I don’t really care about the spots that much, but again, for the price, I feel like they could have done a little more. THAT said, I did feel very safe leaving it in their care (until the unannounced vacation, that is) as opposed to a regular dry cleaner who would have sent it through who knows what kind of crazy automated cleaning assembly-line. I knew that even if they couldn’t get the bodice stain out, they would treat it gently and not destroy it. Which they did. I’d give them a 3.5 out of 5.
