Yes my life improved every time I broke up with someone. Because things weren’t working and no one was happy. Being single is better than being in a relationship that isn’t working. Also I always learned more about myself and what I wanted and needed after each relationship, so over time I improved a great deal relationship wise and personal development wise.

More specific example of how breaking up worked for me.. was dating an ex for 6 months, who came on strong at the start and I pumped the brakes and asked him to slow down. But once I got serious, he went cold and distant (classic red flag when someone come on strong at the start, you should learn from that experience). I insisted on a breakup at 6 months or so despite his begging. A month or so later, met my husband online. And he was perfect for me. Been together almost 4 years now and just married. I could not be more thankful for that break up (imagine I may have missed the opportunity to meet husband if I stuck with that dead end relationship).

To add to the above, the most important lesson I learned is that you need to embrace being single, enjoy being in your own company. If you don’t love your own company, no one will. The best time to meet the right person is when you are perfectly happy with yourself and your own life, and you don’t need a relationship to be happy. Don’t go looking when you feel desperate and fearing you’ll die alone or that you’ll never meet the right person, that will ensure you end up settling for the wrong person.
