I’ve been working at a PR agency for a few years now and while I’ve loved the experiences I’ve had, I am feeling completely burned out from agency life. But I am also totally confused about what else I would possible do. The intense pressure, the tight deadlines, crazy personalities, even crazier clients can be a real beat down and some days I find myself itching to get out. I’m an anxious person by nature and I can thrive off that sometimes, but the past few months I’ve just felt exhausted by it.
Any current or former PR bees out there who can tell me what life is like outside of the agency world or even outside of the PR world? How did you find your next step? Right now I feel stuck!

Sounds like you’re ready to make the jump to in-house. They pay is better, you know your clients better (they’re now your coworkers) and the pace is more manageable.

I never worked in an agency and opted to do more marketing focused work after I graduated from college with my Journalism/PR degree. I work for an education company and focus soley on our product and marketing it which to me is easier since I know our product well. That was the turn off for me when looking at agencies, while the people I would be working with would always be different, different products, the deadlines are quicker, there’s a lot to learn in shorts amount of time and the stress level is just higher than I wanted.
I’ve enjoyed it and I think I’ll probably always stay on this side of things.
