I love Maggie Sottero dresses, but my mom is buying my dress and I would not like her to spend a biq quantity of money on my dress. I am 5’10” and size 18 and I am looking for preowned dresses. If anybody is looking to sell a dress, please let me know here or by email, [email protected]. Thank you girls and by the way all of you looked amazing on those dresses!!!!

I know this post is old, but I thought I’d share mine as well and my story.
Here’s a picture of me in the sample size 12 at the salon and then in my actual dress size 22. I’m a 22/24 in street clothes. The dress is a bit big on the top. You can’t tell too much in the one that’s my size because the lady pulled me in tight in it, but I can tell I’ll need it to be a bit smaller as I’m not digging the creases between my boob and arm. So I’m seeing an alterations person next week. However, I still love the dress and I do think it makes me look smaller than I really am.
Like many of us out there, I was definitely scared to order something I didn’t know how it was going to REALLY fit on me. The sample size was just embarrassing because my whole back side is showing, not seen in pic, and yet they asked if I wanted to step out on the main floor with all the pedestals with all the other girls. I did, but I was really really self-conscious out there standing next to girls with clips all down their back, while my whole back was exposed. The ladies did everything in their power to comfort me, and I loved the dress, but the overall feeling was embarrassing. I think the only reason I’m extremely excited in the sample picture is because I was placed in a dressing room off to the side and felt ok over there, plus, after trying to try on several dresses at this boutique, it was the only one that actually went on. This was also my first day of dress shopping. I went in to try on the Fiorella dress, but it did not work at all. It wouldn’t even go over my shoulders when I tried it on over the head. So the gal came up with this one.
Later I went to David’s Bridal and Alfred Angelo knowing they would have sample sizes in my size and I could regain my sanity. I found some that I liked, but didn’t love. The material of the Maggie dress, versus the ones they had just didn’t compare. I found myself trying to look for styles like the Christina. Nothing worked. I then tried a few other boutiques that had Maggie sottero samples in sizes 18/20!!! This made me excited since trying on something a little closer in my size could give me a better idea. They didn’t have the dress styles I wanted in the samples, but it made me get comfortable with Maggie dresses and I knew getting it in my size would be ok. The sample sizes that were 18/20 really did my shape well despite being too small. I say if you can, look up boutiques in your area that have Maggie Sottero samples sizes in anything bigger than a 8-12, this will help you getting a better understanding of how those dresses are when they are closer or in your size. Just call and ask. I would have never gone if one of my BM’s didn’t look up these places for me and she’s 4 hours away. I had given up by then and she didn’t. lol. I then ended up trying other Maggie dresses on, despite the sample sizes just to narrow down which one, but my heart always had Christina, so I went with it.
Anyway, I am happy with my purchase. I was really nervous and I bought my dress in March at a completely different store then where I had originally tried it on because it was hosting a “trunk show” for the discount. I hope my story helps some of you that are larger than a size 18 and I hope you give into what you feel is right FOR YOU and just not settling. We always have to settle being “bigger,” but you shouldn’t for your big day. Good luck girls!

I am a plus size I wear a street size 16-18 and I am also tall 5″11. I had been looking at mostly sweetheart necklines but really liked a few that were not. I traveled last week 6 hours to see my maid of honour who I hadn’t seen in over a year and we went dress shopping just for fun on my last day there, I tyied on a few Maggies but couldn’t really fit into the 16’s they had, one was an 18 and fit like a glove but the price was 100 over what my $1000 budget was for my dress and alterations. there was a really cute dress that was only $600.00 from Venus, a sweetheart and simple but the beading was really centered and compared to the fabric and detail of the one from Maggie, it didn’t compare.
I had the sales woman write down the info on the dress as I danced around the room in the dress, knowing I would look for it back home and thinking about going over budget because there was something very special about the dress, I also knew that in the Toronto area it would probably be more expensive and I would maybe have to buy it up in the Ottawa area,(6 hours from home!!)
It was after I got dresses that everything changed, the sales woman offered me the sample for…..$500.00!! I was flabergasted and confused on what to do,… a $600 discount!?!? in toronto the only offer I got on a sample of a dress I liked was NO TAX!… I couldn’t take it home on the bus and but my bridesmaid offered to come drive and bring it in a few weeks so we could have another quick visit and do wedding stuff and so she could bring the dress down….so I said….YES!! I mean How could I not!! $500!! $565 with tax!! Who could say no to that??
After being away from my maid of honour and the dress now for a few days… I worry about the impulsivness of my actions.. I wasn’t planning on buying a dress until December, my wedding is just under a year away, I already had 2 dresses in mind and had been thinking them over for months!! I bought this dress the same day I tried it on for the first time…Is it the right shape for me??… but it is a beautiful dress!! It’s a Maggie and it’s called Brittney. It’s a size 18 and really in bridal I should be a 20 to 22 so it fits snug with room to allow me to lose weight, even though it already makes me look 15 pounds lighter!! and if I have to take it in more than that even if it costs me up to $450 I’ll still be on budget for the dress! It’s just an amazing feeling to be able to have something that you thought was out of reach. I’ll have pictures in a week or 2 when we are reunited.
I hope my family loves it as much as I did…I hope I love it as much as I remember loving it too!!

Hi Girls – I am a street size 16 and am looking at the Maggie Sottero Catarina – however I am looking to add two wide straps to her, not the side strap.
I was wondering if any girls had added straps to Catarina at all?

I’m a plus size gal wearing a Maggie Sottero dress! It was like the fifth dress I tried on and I was in LOVE. I was dancing up on the pedestal in front of the mirrors, and I knew it was the one!
