@WhiteViolet:  I am pretty sure you will be able to obtain a discount when you block rooms for your guests (it’s usually given if you hold your wedding reception at a hotel). If you want to stay within your target price per plate then check out the following places:

– The Palms Hotel and Spa in Miami Beach

– The Sonesta (Coconut Grove)

– Newport Beachside (Sunny Isles)
– The InterContinental
– Doubletree Ocean Point Resort and Spa (Sunny Isles)
– Doubletree Grand Hotel
– Surf Comber Hotel (Miami Beach)
– Miami Beach Resort & Spa
– The Sonesta (Key Biscayne)

I was a bridesmaid at a wedding in the Palms Hotel and Spa in Miami last summer.  It was an absolutely perfect venue.  It was a destination wedding, and the wedding coordinator was really helpful in helping the bride organise things from afar.  It’s a bit of a walk from the main Miami Beach strip, but a quick ride in a taxi.  The facilities in the hotel are excellent though, so if all your guests are staying there you may not need to go far anyway!

We started planning our wedding while we were living in Oregon.  It was a bit crazy trying to check out venues while we were visiting our parents during the holidays– so I feel your pain looking at venues before you’ve moved down!  One of the biggest challenges was organizing the vendors into something we could follow (can you say excel sheets!? haha) and making sure we weren’t falling in love with a venue that wasnt available.

I just wanted to pass on a little gem that I’ve fallen in love with; Partyspace.  They have a Follow feature that lets you keep tabs on date availability of various venues.  It contacts you if the date you want either becomes available or if the date is no longer available.  It might help you narrow down your choices (and there are a ton!) or at least keep an eye on them until you are able to see them in person.  Heres the link: http://partyspace.com/southflorida/couple-tools/cfu-how-it-works

Good Luck! Our move back is where our wedding planning really started picking up!

You should check out Partyspace.com is a great place to find TONS of venues in your specific area. The searches are very specific so you can find exactly what you want! They have something called follow me, where they will notify you when venues open up or get booked. Its pretty cool. I found my florist, caterer and cigar roller all from this site as well. Its a great tool for a bride thats doing eveything on her own with no planner! They also have great reviews on vendors and venues that really helped me out. It always helps hearing someone elses opinion espeically with something as important as your wedding day.

Happy Planning!

We just went through the same thing! Our saving grace was partyspace.com It was so easy to navigate and gave specific searches that fit our need. We wound up finding the perfect spot on partyspace and we are shouting it from the rooftops! There are features on the site that basically do all of the “work” for you. You can be notified when a venue has a date you are looking for or what’s available. It was/is so easy to use, we are right around the corner from our wedding and I’d use partyspace again in a heartbeat! Good luck!

There is an awesome list of venues in Miami here! http://new.bestmiamiweddings.com/wedding-venues-locations/

From experience I would say that if you are planning to have all those events at a hotel it might be very costly. If you are having a big party of guests coming, a hotel should give you a discount on the rooms anyways, but I’m not sure they are the best at negotiating package deals. You could also look into a caterer who could create a package deal for you.
