You can not go platinum from dark brown safely at home. You will fry your hair to the point of disintegration. To to a salon, maybe a different one, and ask for their senior hair color expert.

Make an appt for 3 weeks out, do a deep conditioner 2-3x a week until then and be prepared for a hair cut. After that, they should be able to highlight your hair again. Also ask for a toner to get thremaining gold out.

@yanamari:  nope. Your hair is still naturally brown. Lightening more than 4 shades yourself is super dangerous unless you are a professional. You have to use peroxide to lift color. What you do when you lighten hair is open the cuticle and strip color, making the hair porous and fragile. If you overlap the product or process it too strong or for too long your hair will break. This happened to my sister. She and I are naturally dark blonde and she keeps hers platinum. Once she overlapped it too much too often and her waist length hair all broke at her shoulders.
