Do you have pictures of your stone? I would love to see them! What type of setting are you thinking of for your ring?

I’m a fairly new convert to Spinel, but I love it. I fell hard and fast, and this is going to translate into a post with too many pictures — Sorry! It’s a beautiful stone with so much sparkle and life. I have a couple of loose spinels. And I used spinel in my 20th anniversary ring, which I have had for a little over a month now. (So I am still a little bit obsessed with it — ha, ha!)

Here is my ring. It’s a purple-pink oval that is 8.8 x 6.37 and approximately 5mm deep, and it is around 2.31 ct equivalent. Originally, I wanted a sapphire (either purple or blue) for this ring, but I went with spinel because it was more budget-friendly at this point in time. Now, I am really happy with this stone choice. I love how it reflects the light and sparkles, and I can’t imagine any other stone in the setting!

You can kind of see some of the color shift and slightly “rainbow” reflection down in the stone in this picture.

And a sparkles picture that I grabbed on the plane. Yay for sunlight at just the right angle!

Here are some pictures of my loose spinels. I only have pink and purple — so far. I hope to get a gray, a black, and a blue one of these days, too!

longtimemrs :  wow what a sparkly beauty! Mine looks like your pink cushion but it’s a deeper color. I’m obsessed and can’t wait until we set it (rose gold) and I can finally share pics.

OP, I fell hard for spinels. I wanted a pink gemstone and I started googling. I discovered morganite as the pink emerald; in the end it was a bit too peachy and soft, I don’t intend to replace my stone. Had a pink moissanite phase but the tone wasn’t deep enough for me. Then I learned sapphires came in pink. Then I found spinels as the “original” ruby (lol) and that was it. It was “me” on so many levels lol. So happy it’s now the newest August gemstone as I never loved the color of peridot. Please share pics when you can!

lajoliebee :  Thanks! I would love to see pics of your stone, if you have any. I google for spinel pics often, and I mostly get purples and lighter pinks in the results. Not that I don’t love those — because I do! But it would be a treat to see your darker pink beauty. I bet it is going to be stunning in rose gold. I’m excited for you!

I hope to get a darker pink one of these days, too. I love the color of my pink stone, but I have to admit I mostly bought it because of the bubbles, which I love. It reminds me of pink champagne. I know this is weird of me, but … LOLz.

minniesmom :  show us anyway! Black stones have such a special character 😀 I picked a black diamond wedding band because of it. At the time I didnt know spinel came in black or I might have gone for that instead. I had mostly seen red and blue everywhere.

minniesmom :  Yay! I’m so happy you posted pics of your stone. It’s beautiful!! I just jogged across the inter webs to look up Jenny Norman, and her work is so, so pretty! Your stone is going to be gorgeous in its new home. What type of metal are you thinking of doing? I’m super excited for you!!

Thanks for the kind words on my ring. =) I know my setting isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I love it. Over the years, I’ve discovered I am a fan of intricate, detailed settings with a lot of metal in them.

And, over the past year or so, I have become more and more enamored with colored gemstones. In my younger years, I would have said I was a “diamonds only” gal, but now I realize that is not true at all. (Not that I don’t love diamonds, too. And moissy, as well! I am an “equal opportunity” admirer of gems — ha, ha!) When I was in the process of getting engaged and, then, married, it was diamonds or nothing. Especially in the area where I lived at the time and among my family. So I was probably caving to not-so-subtle family and peer pressure, even then.

minniesmom :  Oh, yeah!! For sure a much better deal than a diamond. Or even a sapphire. wink

I love rose gold. I know some people say it is trendy, but I don’t think it is. I feel like it is timeless. I feel that way about any gold color, really. Because each (rose gold, yellow gold, white gold) has had moments of popularity, followed by a time when it was unpopular, and then come back around to be popular again. To me, the most important thing is to get a metal you love and will enjoy looking at for years to come.

When I first started hanging out on the Bee, I was strictly a white metals person. In my mind, I thought that was all I could wear, and that it was all I would ever love. How silly of me! At that time, I hadn’t really thought about other metal colors. I love how the Bee has opened my mind to my love of every metal color, many different gemstones, and different types of settings, too.

I am super excited for your ring! Your stone is going to be so beautiful set in rose gold. I can’t wait to see it all set and on your finger. I hope you will share pictures of it when it is done, as well as the creative process along the way (if you’re comfortable with it, that is).
