I have 7 tattoos, and I love every single one of them. I have A large one in the middle of my chest and one a bit higher near my collar bone. My mom says “Only bikers and lesbians have tattoos” and she tells me this frequently. My SO has a couple tattoos, but none as out in the open as mine. Let me clarify that we are neither bikers nor lesbians, NOT that it matters, but still my mother says it every time I mention my art work. I bought a dress with an illusion neck line and I love it, but my mom says that the tattoo underneath the neckline is distracting and makes my dress look trashy.

Sometimes people, specially mothers,  think sharing their opinions honestly is helpful, But its not. I’ve gotten into the habit of telling my mom, whenever she mentions the tattoos that, I happen to think I look beautiful in my dress. I have no regrets and though I usually do appreciate her opinion, My SO thinks I’m pretty the way I am. I have no regrets and I’m going to look back at all my wedding photos and love how beautiful they are regardless of how many of my tattoos are showing.  I have to repeat these words often to her, and I have a feeling she will never let it be.

What makes you happy is worth the fight, always.  I’m sure you’ll look beautiful, whether you are covered from toes to eyeballs in ink or naked as the day you were born, black dress, red dress or white dress, Doesn’t matter.  Beauty is a many different things to different people.

@eeerika22:  I have one on my inner left wrist. Anyone telling me that I look trashy will receive the look of doom and a swift kick to the ass (not really, but I’ll be imagining it!)

Mine will most likely not be showing due to their location (but if I pick a dress with a low enough back my side one could show haha) but if I ones that would show I’d love it!  Just own it 🙂

By The Way though, I did a boudoir shoot to help a friend get experience photographing those kinds of pics, and I asked her to Photoshop out my tats in a couple just for fun (and she wanted the experience anyway) and they turned out amazing!  It was super cool to see how I’d look without them – I haven’t been tattoo-free since I was 17 so it was really fun to see me without them.

@eeerika22:  It still may come down to you nipping it in the bud next time she brings it up, then ignoring her comments about your tattoos, a black dress (which would be AMAZEBALLS! I’m considering this: http://www.saksfifthavenue.com/main/ProductDetail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524446627800' defer='defer), or anything else you want.

You may not be able to control her, but you can decide that you will not shoulder her issues. You’ll give them back to her for her to deal with while you move on with your joy. 🙂

Ughhh parents (and family in general) can be sooo annoying when it comes to tattoos. I know it’s hard not to let your mom’s comments get to you, but if you’re happy with who you are and the way your tattoos look, that’s really all that matters. Your tattoos are part of what make you who you are, and don’t you want to look like yourself on your wedding day?

I have 11 myself and plan to continue getting more. My family is less than supportive and I’m really excited to go home for Thanksgiving and see everyone’s panties wad up over my new gigantic chest piece 😉 but I’m evil like that lol.

i havent had my wedding yet but i have 11 tattoos to include a half sleeve of a topless mermaid with an afro….not everyone digs it but i dont care. luckily i come from a very liberal family, my mom has more tattoos than i do. but ignore it as much as you can, your Fiance loves you for you. my Fiance has 2 full sleeves and a chest piece so we are a match made in heaven. when we met his mom said, ohhh she has tattoos too, i see why you like her lol. heres some pics of me in my dress. you can see a couple of the tats

I’ve got a back piece (lower left to right shoulder) and the top part will be showing. Luckily, it actually works as a standalone piece. My Mom originally was pushing hard to have it covered, but after seeing the dress, she’s fine with it, albeit grudgingly. She even admitted it was pretty, which is a HUGE step for her! She’s Japanese, so tattooed women are still very taboo.

@eeerika22:  I have 11 tattoos and my mom isn’t overly thrilled they’ll be showing.  I wanted to start getting a quarter sleeve but my mom started freaking out on me…and she HAS tattoos! LOL her opinion is they should be hidden and a wedding isn’t any place for a sleeve. I love all my tattoos…and if my mom asked me to photoshop them I would be furious.  Unfortunately, there isn’t anything you can do to make your mom happy..just do what I do…let it go in one ear and out the other. lol
