I have my elementary ed degree, but I am teaching preschool right now until something opens up.  I live in PA and jobs are very competitive!  I actually have an interview for a part time gifted position next week though…. fingers crossed! 🙂

I think the best thing about teaching is being able to see that lightbulb come on when a student FINALLY gets something that you’ve been trying to make them understand.  It’s extremely rewarding. 🙂

PROS: you can usually be really creative, it’s very rewarding, you often work with awesome colleagues, you keep learning alongside your students

CONS: very stressful, job security is often not that great, dealing with parents, difficult students, and seeing students come from terrible families is very emotionally draining

All that said, I love teaching and really don’t know if I could do anything else with my life!  If you can’t find a job right away, and your budget can handle a little uncertain income, substitute teaching is SO much fun!!  Each day is different, there’s no outside work, your hours are awesome, and if you sub enough, your pay is pretty decent.

The best places for jobs right now (that I’ve heard anyway), are: North Carolina, Arizona, New Mexico (esp. Vegas area), Alaska, and in very urban areas.  If you’re willing to move, those are good places to look!
