OK OK, so I don’t have the ring yet 😉 I feel like I have to confess that! But the planning has (sort of) started… mostly for budgeting purposes. And there’s just one big snag I can see us running into…
I’m not quite bold enough for an outdoor ceremony in a location with unpredictable weather, and the reception venue we have in mind, and probably wont budge on, does not have room for both a separate ceremony & reception space. We are not religious at all, and are not opposed to a ceremony in a church but we do not want any mention of religious components in the ceremony… so we figure this will be impossible to actually go through with in a church (I’m not sure many pastors would be comfortable with the whole notion of “hey, could you marry us, in your church, but never once mention God or any bible verses or anything like that?”). It’s not that I am offended by religion at all, its just that since we are not religious I’d sort of feel like a “fake”, and like I was pretending to have beliefs that I don’t actually have, if those components were included in the ceremony. It just doesn’t feel right to us. I want family and friends to be there, probably 80-100, so JOP is also out.
So…. what’s left after that?? Anyone have the same issues? Or seen any creative venues willing to host ceremony only?
I’m in Grand Rapids, Michigan if anyone happens to be in the same area, but want to hear any ideas from your localities… maybe I’ll be able to find something similar here.
