Any Vancouver BC Brides out there? Just wanting to know when you’re getting married, how your planning has been and how everything is planning a wedding in Vancouver since I mostly see brides here on the bee are from the States!
I’m getting married on August 30th in Richmond, BC and I’m getting pretty excited! I’m almost done everything, just trying to smooth out little and final details and still sorting out the dreaded unresponded RSVPs.
How are you guys doing fellow Canadians?

Me!!! We just got engaged 2 weeks ago, so still just planning the engagement party at my parents’ ..but I have started shopping around and OUCH…is it ever expensive.
We’re thinking the Vancouver Club downtown….its very elegant and surprisingly affordable. $800 to rent the ballroom and $500 for the ceremony room.
Food runs you about $70 per person and up…
I’m hoping for a Summer 2015 wedding…

westcoast_girl: I remember looking into that but I can’t remember why I didn’t look into it any further.
It is expensive isn’t it? Vancouver is not one of the cheaper places to get married. I somehow managed but I had to do A LOT of networking to get where I am now. Don’t be afraid to research and talk to as much people as you can!! It’s the only way to get the best deals and pricing and I started pretty late in my planning.
I think that the reception part is always going to be the most expensive part of the planning process. The venue and food are pretty much more than 40% of my budget which sucks but it happens. You find ways around everything and I had to compromise on a few things to get the more important things on my list.
If you have any questions let me know since you are a fellow vancouverite!

You are going to be my new best friend when I seriously start planning lol. I’m having friends send me vendors that they’ve seen at others’ weddings…but you can tell they come with a big price tag.
I had my doubts about the Van Club, cuz they want you to use their vendors…which are $$$$ but you can use your own as long as they meet with them ahead of time. They have their standards blah blah blah…I still have to meet with them, so Im sure there are some hidden things I may not be aware of though.
You are so right..you really have to get quotes from TONS of places to get the best deals. I’m trying to find a florist, dj, photographer. Who will you be using?

westcoast_girl: I got pretty lucky with some of my vendors because I networked as much as I could. I asked friends, family, friends of friends, friends of whoever I can think of! My photographer happens to be the cousin of my FI’s bestfriend from highschool. My videographer is an up and coming guy who happens to be good old friends of my dad’s and my florist is someone my mom-in-law knew by chance when he did a friend’s funeral. Elegance Flowers I believe it’s called in Richmond. He does amazing work.
For my decor I went with Rose Chair Decor. Super nice lady. She’s good at what she does and gives good deals. Or you could go with Trinklets Creations. They have REALLY GOOD PRICING. I just went Rose Chair Decor because I just happen to meet up with her first. Both based in Surrey.
Yeah be careful with the hidden fees in venues. One venue I spoke to, the price seems too good to be true then I found out I would have to rent absolutely EVERYTHING from them and then of course the price went from low to THOUSANDS.
Another place, I told them the specific ballroom I wanted and they said yes, then when I met with them, all of a sudden they said that ballroom was booked a year ago and all they could offer me was this crappy place that looked like a highschool gym. I was not happy.
I think that was the reason I didn’t go to Van Club. They were asking for wayyyy too many requirements and I didn’t feel like I could have the freedom to do the wedding the way I wanted to. Everytime I would suggest a type of decor, they said they could do it but “it’ll cost ya!”.
