Any wedding planning mistakes?

My daughter designed our wedding invites for us- she did a beautiful job….but I gave her the wrong address!!!! I didn’t realize until we’d printed them AND given some out…..a close friend of my DH’s, who knew the owners of our venue and had gotten it for us….she texts me and says ‘did you change the venue?’ and I’m texting her back in a panic ‘what?!? NO!’  lol. SIGH.

So I had to ask my daughter to re-do the invites with the correct venue address (I had so CARELESSLY looked it up online and there was a venue with a similar name in the same city)….lol and I’d been to this venue a handful of times for other events, so not just careless but clueless of me. Then we had a rush-job to have them reprinted (which turned out fine but cost extra for the rush on top of an entire new batch of invites) and had to ‘recall’ the handful we’d already given out.

The costliest mistakes that we did was ordering way to many stamps for our invitations. The most unnecessary thing we had at our wedding was cupcakes that we used as place settings. It looked very pretty on plates but not many people took them home

I ordered the most hideous invitation suite from vista print.  I could literally vomit.  Now I’m spending $600.00 to correct a ~$400.00 mistake -___-

PrincessPeach13 :  If you talk to VistaPrint they might work with you, especially if the inviations when they arrived really didn’t look like online. I’ve found they typically have good service and will fix a mistake or an issue with quality at no charge.

Financially…

  • Not ordering stuff during optimal promo code time. I’m kind of kicking myself in the foot that I didn’t have my invitations designed earlier to take advantage of Black Friday and Christmas sales. Same with smaller things like robes, expensive lingerie, shoes, general little stuff like ring bearer pillow, guest books, non rented decor, etc.
  • Not making a separate credit card the day after I got engaged for wedding related purchases, big or small. Those points would have added up big time!
  • Not giving Fiance my ring size in advance. He was so off that the whole thing needed to be recasted completely and cost $575!

Other…

  • Not bringing a change of clothes to our engagement shoot so we could have had one formal outfit and one casual/fun outfit.
  • In general not having a clear picture of the type of wedding I wanted and pushed for it from the very beginning.

So far the only money-related mistake I can think I’ve made is ordering a custom return address stamper with black ink, then ordering dark purple thank you card envelopes to send out after the wedding. No way the black ink would show on the dark purple envelopes so I had to buy more white envelopes.

Only mistake is buying things on etsy. Not all are equal.  One item was $70 and it was not what I wanted. Do your etsy shop reviews people! It will help other brides out.

Haven’t had my wedding yet but money wise, I regularly hear brides saying they wish they had not gotten any program or favors. Sometimes I’ve also heard that their candy table buffet was a waste because it was hardly touched.

minervaa :  Thanks but if I was going to do it again the cupcakes would have also been our wedding favours

I somehow forgot that invitations get sent to families, not to individual people, so I ordered one invitation per person. Needless to say, I had rather a number of invitations left over after they all went out!
