Alrighty Bees, I’ve got a question and I hope someone can help! My Fiance gave me a white gold half eternity band for an ering. Unfortunately I don’t like white gold. At all. And every piece of jewelry I own is yellow gold (including those he’s given me). So my plan for my wedding ring is to have 2 yellow gold bands with sapphires to surround my diamond ring.
My question – does any one havething similar? If so, would you share some pictures? I can’t seem to find any pictures of what I’m looking for (just spent 2 hours googling it) and since I’m not a fan of mixing metals I’m not sure I will like it. Please help!

@catwoman1701: I’m a teensy bit confused…can you post pics? Was the WG band a total surprise from him?

@ceebree: I’m guessing it was, lots of people let the ring be a surprise. I did π
OP, do you mean like this? But instead with white in the middle surrounded by two yellow gold ones?

I love mixing and matching metals. I used to think it was important to have a key piece (like a watch) that contains both white and yellow, then wearing white and yellow gold would work. Now? I wear whatever metal suits my fancy – somedays it’s yellow with my white gold wedding/Erings and other days it’s all white gold.
I do love the look of two yellow gold rings on either side of a white gold ring. Stunning.

@ceebree: I only have the ering, it was a complete surprise – I honestly didn’t even know he was thinking about marriage.
@JLR1982: Oh, that is very close! I’d like sapphires instead of diamonds though in the two outside rings. I’ve always wanted a sapphire ering so I figure I’ll just make them my wedding band. But I’m not a huge fan of mixing metals so I’m just afraid if I do something like that I’ll end up not wearing anything.
Here’s my ering:

@catwoman1701: Traditionally, what you’ve got is considered the wedding band. Have you thought about a sapphire solitaire (or some variation)?
I think the pic pp posted above (mixing metals) would look fine!

@catwoman1701: I think mixing metals can be nice… but could you just ask your SO if you can have it changed? I don’t know much about it, but could you “un-plate” the white gold to turn it to yellow gold? I could be way off, but if it’s possible, I’d definitely look into it.

@ceebree: Yeah, he really wanted something that I could easily wear everyday and not get caught on anything or scratch things. Hence the wedding band. I’ve thought about getting what I actually wanted, sapphire solitaire or 3 stone, but I think it would hurt his feelings as it wouldn’t carry through the easy to wear theme he’s started. That’s why I’m thinking sapphire bands. With at the 10 year anniversary getting a gorgeous sapphire solitaire/3 stone ring. π
@canarydiamond: I did try asking why he got the white gold when everything I own is yellow to lead into maybe changing and got ‘Look, you have something different.’ Men. There’s another thread about unplating it wand it doesn’t seem to be something that can be easily done. I think I’ll just leave it and hopefully the plating will wear off to something that isn’t so harsh on my fair skin.
The mixing metals thing is all in my head. I’m just not a fan but hopefully will come to love it!

@catwoman1701: You mentioned you have fair skin.. I don’t know your coloring obviously, but I am very fair/blue eyes and white gold/silver/platinum looks way better on me than yellow gold. I only own a few pieces of yellow gold. I always think yellow gold looks good on the darker skintones.. I see many hispanic, black etc. women who look just gorgeous with yellow gold and they choose to wear it most often. So maybe it doesn’t look as bad as you think?
Good news though… I have a white gold ring that I need to get re-plated – the yellow gold has started to peek through after wearing it for a couple of years. So it does wear off. Just don’t get it re-plated and hopefully you will like it more with time.

@catwoman1701: I find your white gold band looks great on you!But since your preference is yellow gold, it’s too bad you didn’t get just that…but you seem to be ok with it and will accept it π
I’m the opposite in my preferences, with the same skin tone as yours. I love white metals (and rose gold!!!) My husband got me a yellow gold ring before we got engaged. I just couldn’t wear yellow…so I talked to him and told him I wanted to sell it and exchange it for a white gold heart pendant that I would wear everyday. He was fine with it! He was happy to make me happy, and he didn’t let it affect his ego. I very much consider the pendant to be from him π
Back to your fabulous idea of stacking rings…I love that look, and I find it most interesting when metals and stones are mixed. What you described sounds beautiful!! I mix a white gold and rose gold band on my right hand. Here’s a pic on my left hand.

I’ve also stacked a twisted ribbon ring with the stack:

As mentioned above in other posts, white gold does eventually turn a pretty creamy yellow, which you will certainly love!!! For me it turns yellow-ish in under 2 months from my hand chemistryl For some it takes more than a year. So look out for it π
Here’s a picture of a woman’s unplated white gold ring. Just gorgeous!

@Scintillante: I have to say, the more I see unplated/white gold in need of plating…I like the look more and more! I found my original e-ring that I was CONVINCED I lost (it was burrowed in the ripped lining of my suitcase! I was speechless!) and it definitely needs to be replated, but I’m leaving it the way it is. It does indeed have a creamy, beautiful luster to it that makes it stand apart from my new upgrade ring, which is brand-spankin’ gleaming rhodium plated.
Choices, choices….what first world problems to have right? π

@Scintillante: Thanks! I do love your stacks (I’ve seen your rings on other threads, they are so pretty!) and I love that unplated ring. Here’s hoping mine turns that colour!

@DaisyBelle: Wow, so amazing you found your original ring. That’s great! And now you’re liking unplated white gold…very nice π
Yeah, in our first world countries, we have different problems, which is good. I’m over-educated, working my ass off, sacrificing so much of my personal life to contribute to my country’s economy…and I need a good escape in weddingbee land to give me bits of happiness through it all, haha!

@catwoman1701: I’m sure he just wants you to be happy with whatever you end up with. And you just want him to be happy about it too! You guys are so sweet! π
