Hey everyone! I wanted to post this to reach out to other women who are in college for welding, already welding certified graduates, or have been in welding for many years. My name is Lauren and I am a 26 year old welding college student in Ann Arbor. I am getting certified at the number one welding college in the country by a female welding instructor (wouldnt you know it? lol.) I will be finished with my classes and an official graduate next August. I got into welding for a number of reasons.
1.) I am a freelance artist. From painting to chalk murals, to faux finish painting… You name it, I have done it.
2.) My father runs a CNC business who makes parts for military vehicles such as tanks, submarines, B52 planes, hummers, fighter jets and so on… Its great being apart of a family who supports our homeland troops!! 🙂
3.) I lost my full time job over the summer due to the hard economy and decided to go back to college to get an even better paying job.
4.) I am technically a single parent still, since I am not married or engaged YET, lol. I do have a boyfriend who has stepped up to be the sole role model for my 3 year old son. I went back to college for my little boy, so I can make a better future for him and myself.
I just wanted to post this to see if there were any women out there who were apart of the 14% american female welders in this country. If you got any advice for me as a welding student and future welder, I would love to hear about it, experienced or not… Maybe even some artistic aspects of it too, or projects you have done, big or small that involved welding. My certification does include all welding processes such as MIG TIG STICK AND GAS. Brazing, piping, overhead, horizontal, vertical welding as well that I am learning in my classes. If there is any technique advice you could give me, or any other advice about how the industry is out in the real world before graduation, that would be awesome to hear your story! I absolutely love welding, and I would not want to do anything else with my life. did you know that 50% of all products in america are welded? From scooters to mp3’s, to ships and railroad tracks… You name it, its welded. Anyway, cannot wait to hear from you strong women in this tough industry! Props to you for all the hard work youve put into making this country great! God bless!
