My Fiance and I started dating at 17 and he made it clear immediately he was in it “for the long haul”. After two months he gave me a wedding band; he called it a “proxy ring” while he saved up for my engagement ring. Just over two years later and after 2 years of living together, he proposed. The second he had the money for my ring, he went and bought it.
I think in these sorts of situations, there should be no prodding or waiting or hesitation on anyone’s part. It is important to be on the same page, and with the same timeline. We are now 1 year in to our engagement and while we are not rushing the wedding (we still have a year and a half to go), we are very much on the same page with timelines about what we want in terms of kids/a house etc.

I’m 24 and we’ve been together nearly 6 years. Sure, we’re young but we’re very committed and have lived together three years now and are stable in our careers/lives since graduating three years ago. Why shouldn’t we marry?

20 and waiting here! Been together for 4 years, high school sweethearts, we both have jobs, and he’s an incredibly saver so we are pretty much good to go on the whole engagement/living on our own front come summer. Up until now, we have lived in on-campus apartments and basically moved in with each other, so our own apartment wouldn’t be too much different.
We’re just trying to find the right place in terms of neighborhood/rent/distance from school for later this year so once that is finalized, SO said engagement will be following or preceding pretty closely! We’ve already made a timeline and are planning to have an almost 2 year engagement so that way we can settle down in our jobs and lives post-graduation before the wedding.
Good luck to all the other young bees out there! Sometimes, you just get lucky and meet your special person early on in life 🙂
