I did, and it was a great decision! Once for our legal ceremony on the beach in the caribbean and once for our vows/rings/reception at home. Doing my hair and makeup is relaxing for me and while I’m sure a pro would have done a better job, I am happy with how it turned out!
This is in St. Lucia:
This is at home in Montreal for the reception
It was hot both days, over 28 C (82 F) and humid, so hair up was necessary. I also changed the veil placing halfway through the day. Having it on top hid some of the flaws, having it underneath later on helped keep my hair up.

I did! I was so happy I did too. I got to spend 2 hours in the bathroom by myself with a glass of wine. Great decision.
I used a flatiron to make the curls, cuz I’m not great with curling irons, and lots of soft touch hairspray. Hahaha. Held up better than I thought it would!

I’m a totaly nincompoop when it comes to hair so I won’t be doing my own but my cousin is a stylist and she did her own on her wedding day and she was so happy with it! She said that if somebody else did it she wouldn’t have gotten exactly what she wanted so it was the perfect solution for her. I don’t have a picture but she has big curls kind of piled on her head, half up half down. By The Way I’m hoping she will do my hair for my wedding as her gift!

I did my own makeup, but not my own hair… I suck at hair. My friend and Bridesmaid or Best Man did my hair for me and it was great! 🙂
Just practice a few times! That way you’ll feel more confident on the day. I must have practiced my makeup like 10 times before the wedding.

Do you have any friends from work who could come do your hair for you? My best friend is a hair stylist and when she got married she had a bunch of people from her salon there to help out. Of course they were all friends so it was fun and not like work.

@pineapplelove: Aw, thanks!
@JenGirl: I was the same way. Being black, I only like to have black stylists, but every time they’ve curled my hair, it ends up over-gelled, and shirley-temple looking. I just wanted soft big curls, and I haven’t found a black stylist who understands soft. So I did it myself. Haha.

I am doing my own hair for the following reasons:
In my almost 40 years of visiting hair dressers I have only walked out 1 times and thought “wow, my hair looks good!”. Usually I am thinking “OMG, get me home so I can fix my hair!”.
Everytime my FH sees a pic of a bride we know with her “Wedding Hair” he says “Her hair looks goofy”. He is a bit of a….um….I like what I like and don’t change it kind of guy.
When I walk down the asile to meet him I want him thinking “That is my beautiful lady” not “Who is the heck is that”.
