    We mutually discussed it and decided to get married. I really do not get tourturing yourself over a proposal. I was so happy we both said “Let’s get married” rather than waiting for the right day/mood/trip/date/ring. It seems like some people calculate their proposal like a science equation, or it ends up being all about money, and to me that just would not have felt right.

    I’ve always been curious as to how this worked. I always thought that if YOU asked HIM he should still be given how ever long he needs to be able to fund a ring, right? I mean, it’s kind of unfair to ask him and then demand a ring right away. (NOT saying this is what you’re doing!)

    But on the other hand, if he wasn’t ready yet he’d say no… right?

    Not trying to be snarky! Just curious as to how this works.

    @firsttimemom: Not everyone has a ring when they get engaged. I certainly didn’t. A week or so later we went and bought a ring at a department store which he then gave to me later.

    I love our engagment story. It was Halloween morning and we were driving back from the mountains and I just brought it up. By the time we got home we were engaged.I checked off I asked him but it was more that I brought it up and we both mutually agreed. We do things a little backwards so it makes sense for us. We dated, had a baby, moved in together and are now getting married. I knew that if I left it to him I would have been waiting a very long time. The idea of proposing just made him a little nervous and I knew that so we took all work out of it. We shopped for my ring together and I love it, so we didnt have to worry about me liking it or hating it.

    @KatyElle: Agreed completely with you, if you both want to get married it seems like these days there is so much hype about having the perfect ring and the perfect proposal.. How about a simple discussion where you can agree you love each other and want to get married.. My SO and I have agreed on that but he still wants to surprise me a little bit but I am pretty sure it is happening next weekend he just wants to dazzle me with a loving proposal nothing spectacular because I told him I just want him and dont care about the ring… so we will see.

    We decided we wanted to get married but he wanted to get me a nice ring, So I picked one out, we saved up… I knew around the time he was gettting it but he still suprized me on my birthday day, and asked my dad before (my dad loves him and already new we picked out a ring) It was sweet but we decided on everything together.

    @KatyElle: Yeah, I guess I was speaking more in terms to those who had come to the mutual decision she/ they would both get e-rings. I love your story, by the way 🙂

    @Fochizzy: Gotcha! I was just curious 🙂

    @firsttimemom:

    We mutually agreed, and we don’t have a ring at all!
