Things add up very quickly before you realize it! Just a little thing here, then there. I noticed after it was all said and done that all those little things added up to just as much as the big money items, like the photography, etc. If you don’t keep a detailed list and keep track of your budget, those little things can kill you in the end. 😉

lol, the little stuff does add up for sure but when I had to transfer sums like 3k to our photog or 10k to our reception venue I certainly did notice that this stuff is expensive!

ErinEllen:  We established our budget, allotted it to the various needs, made a spreadsheet and documented everything as we signed with vendors/made with purchases. That way we always knew where we stood in relation to the budget.

I’ve been super careful about tracking my budget, including projected costs (money we haven’t spent yet) and money already spent. We don’t have money to throw around, so it’s important to us to be responsible. If I spent fifty cents buying ribbon for the decor it’s calculated and entered into the budget before I open my wallet. That way we know exactly what things are costing us 🙂

My wedding is less than a year away and I’ve already spent over 3k. Things do add up quickly for sure!

We have a seperate bank account for the wedding, and only pay for items out of that account, so we know exactly what everything is costing and what has been spent. We have a budget, but it is a little bit flexible to allow for things we may not have considered.

We’re being super duper careful with our budget. Even before wedding planning money has always been an issue I turn very Scrooge-ish about, so when it came time for us to figure out our budget, we really focus on the numbers. I don’t purchase anything without thinking about how it’s going to effect my savings. It’s difficult since our seperate bank account is for solely the huge ticket items like the venue and photography, but all the little things like candles and our guest book come out of our “every day” money.

ErinEllen:  Yup, we were the same! When I add everything up it makes me feel slightly sick lol. That said, it was an amazing day and we’ve had so many compliments already, and for us that makes it worth while 🙂

I totally agree! However were not the ones paying so it’s been easy to just charge things to our “wedding card” and forget about it. I couldn’t tell you if we have spent $25k or $45k. However if we were paying ourselves I know my fiancé would be all about those spreadsheets!

Yeah, we bought things over time so the only things I really paid attention to were the big contracts and my dress. We didn’t have a super expensive wedding though so it was fine.

ErinEllen:  Yessss. We have spent so much! We still have like 15 months left  But luckily my dad is paying for a lot of the big stuff (venue, photographer, videographer) but we don’t want him to pay for everything so we’re buying the little stuff (dessert table, decor, florist, etc) but it doesn’t seem so little the more we pay for! Not even my dad knows how much this whole thing will cost us.
