@Akbridezilla:   I do! My Fh & I have decided it would be best for our relationship if I stayed at home as soon as we can afford it. Never felt the need to explain our reasons, as they are ours. But, not all women find a career they are passionate about and some women would explode if they had No career to keep them busy. Nothing wrong with either side !

I dont think it is a “career.” Sorry. However, I’m not the type of woman who looks at a housewife as doing “nothing,” either.

@Girasole:  I’m one of those people that would go stir crazy! I work in an emergency room so I think that sums up my personality lol

@Firemansgirl:  See, I love cleaning a l l the time, I’m very anal about those things lol. WheN I go out I’m always making a list of the next task to do at home. Eh I just realized being a wife and mother are my calling. I went to college, did my time, graduated, and am still at a loss for my “career”.

@Girasole:  Good for you for knowing what you want! You’re not at a loss, you know exactly what you’re meant to be doing =)

I am a housewife and it is a career. I consider it being in management because I manage the accounts and make everything look easy. I host parties when he is home and I organize, manage, and implement the needs of my Fiance.

He is a handful all by himself, we both agreed that I would be a housewife.  For me personally I became disenfanchised by the whole glass ceiling, getting paid less than a man, and constantly having to prove myself only for it to feel empty.

It made me question my degree and if it was truly worth it and I realized for me it wasnt. I live in a city where it is not what you know but who you know.

We are moving when his tour ends because I want out of this city.

@gelaine22:  +1. Not a career. To me, a career implies some sort of formal education or training, along with the potential for upward mobility.

I think of it as a job definitely, and if career means job aspirations and what you want to do for several years (whether that includes job promotions, pay rises or not) then yes it definitely is a career!

Is it hard work? No doubt. But I don’t consider it a “career.”

Maybe I could consider it a job, and in that case, my fiance and I both have TWO jobs. Our regular teaching jobs, plus our housework.

ETA: If it’s your choice to stay at home, esp. for your kids, then that is a fine and valid choice. Especially if you are the sole homemaker in the family, I applaud you!
