I got one of my friends a slate that you hang outside next to the front door. It says “Home sweet home The Smith’s” with a little picture painted in the middle. It’s really cute and she loved it. I googled them online and ended up buying hers at a website called Personalizationmall.com (I think thats the name). But I know you can buy them other places as well.

My Fiance and I just moved in to our new home, and even though we had everything that we needed, my bestie still bought me a chips and salsa dish. One of those new age ones with cool designs and edges. Something that I would never buy myself, because its not exactly “needed” but something fun to entertain with. I always love gifts that are not to fussy, something I wouldnt normally buy myself and would love to have. Usually some kitcken gadget, or new sheets in colors that would match anything. Good Luck!

It’s not a great suggestion for you, but J’s aunt spoiled us and got us a hall tree/bench thing.  It helps keep us so much more organized!  I love it!  We also got a lot of wine but that doesn’t help you either.  My mom got us a beautiful pot and promised to help us plant whatever we like in it once it warms up.  I’m pretty excited for that one.  And my in-laws got us a tray and silverware container for taking dishes outside/barbequeing.  Not sure if that gives you any ideas…  This sort of thing is so tricky when you can’t just fall back on a bottle of wine!

My friend just bought a house and I want to make her a calendar to hang on her fridge with pictures of her and her family.  You can order them on-line or local like at Walgreens.  She really liked the one I had in my kitchen.  Plus you add birthdates and other special occassions sometimes on the calendar.

So this is a boring gift, but one that no houseowner wants to spend money on… Fire extinguishers and CO2 detectors.  I got cute WHITE fire extinguishers at home depot, for like 11 each.  It’s something that I’d never think of getting someone, and frankly, I almost forgot to by myself!

Oh, duh.  Like Kerribr6 said, a gift card to some place like Lowes or Target will be greatly appreciated.  Even if you buy a brand new house there are still little things that you want for it that your last place didn’t require.  It’s not as fun but it would definitely be appreciated.

What about a really nice plant.  It sounds dumb but I feel like that’s what we need, more greenery.

We just bought a house and things I would personally appreciate are drills, saws, home depot gift certificates would be AMAZING! Then again, I’m more excited about our sears registry than our “BB&B” one…. lol

OMG we just had our house warming last weekend. I could not believe how many wonderful things we received.  Gifts from Williams-Sonoma, Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn.  Needless to say I immediately wrote nice thank you notes to all of our friends.

Maybe suggest that they start a housewarming registry so they can tell you what they need? A friend of mine is having a housewarming party next month and I casually kept mentioning how great myregistry.com has been for my wedding and said that once we finally get our own house I’d use it again for the housewarming. She got the hint and made a registry!
