Fiance and I took the decision to postpone our wedding last weekend. We were due to be married on the 12th September, but have been waiting to hear back from the Home Office (I’m British, he’s not) about my Fiance visa renewal. Without the visa we couldn’t get the wedding licence.
It was a really hard decision to make, but it was the right thing to do given the circumstances. My mum and dad were great in contacting everyone. I personally just wanted to put my head under a rock and not think about it. It’s been tough because we were the third couple in our group of friends due to get married this year. The other two are happily wed and we’re still..who knows.
People have been calling us and are acting like there has been a death or something, which I find really bizarre. I appreciate that we have had to move the wedding, which is unexpected news but nobody has died, nobody is sick and we’re both dealing with it.
I was due to be off work for three weeks to cover the wedding and honeymoon but that’s not happening now either, as I don’t want to waste the holiday time in case we need it. We haven’t decided on a new date, but would like it to be this year still if we can.
It’s been really frustrating with venues as one of them have been really difficult and are making us pay everything, even though we said we would move to a new date.
I sorta feel exhausted with all this wedding planning lark, even though I’m still seriously addicted to wedding blogs/sites.
Has anyone had to postpone a wedding and how did you cope with going back to normalcy and then getting back into wedding mode?
