With a short planning timeline, and the fact that I just don’t run into a lot of bridesmaid dresses I like, I’m really considering giving my girls some off the rack options instead. I was in the BCBG outlet the other day and found a beautiful option for only $68 and they had the entire range of sizes we’d need! Has anyone else done this? If you went with an actual bridesmaid dress, what brands would you recommend? I’m going for something classic with a little bit of an edge to it.

I only had two BMs with completely different body styles so I just let them choose a black cocktail dress that look good on them. They both looked beautiful and they decided to wear the same jewelry so it was hardly noticable.

I am letting my girls choose their own dresses off of ModCloth.com. I gave them a color palate (light pink, cream, and nudes) and am letting them pick whatever they like.

Hi there…..I picked up three off the rack dresses from Annie Sez back in June and the girls LOVED them! So in my case it worked perfectly!!! I found the perfect shade of Cranberry red dresses to match my color scheme and I couldn’t be happier:) My bridesmaids loved the dress as well as the price, at $59.99 who could complain. Hope this helps!

Did it! Have one pregnant bridesmaid who bought her dress online and it’s gorgeous. i went to the mall with 2 of the other 3, shopped all day long, and ended up finding their dresses at JC Penney and purchased the dress for the bridesmaid who wasn’t able to come along.
Worked out perfectly and they were about $55.

My girls will be picking coral dresses from wherever they want. This way they can work within their budget.

My girls picked black dresses; I didn’t ask for anything specific except for differing necklines and knee-length. The dresses looked good together and in pictures, although in retrospect I probably should have given a little more direction and a time frame for purchasing (they didn’t seem to think it was very urgent…). I think a non-bridesmaid dress is a great idea because they’re more likely to actually be able to wear it again! Also, $68 is a great deal.

I’m also having my BMs pick knee-length black dresses. The funny thing is, most of them have been looking at dresses marketed as bridesmaids dresses at J Crew, DB, from Monique Lhullier, etc…the whole point of letting them choose their own was to pick whatever they want! I think it’s a great idea because the markup on Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses is so high–if you find something you like that’s reasonable, go for it!

I went with this off-the-rack Betsy & Adam dress. We got it at Belk.com but it was also at Von Maur, Dillards, and Macy’s. With a coupon it was $111. Not too bad for a long gown. We only had 3 months to plan and the girls ordered and had their dresses the same week. If you’re flexible with the color, I think off-the-rack is the way to go. If we had not gone with off the rack, I really liked Dessy and the other lines by that same company.
I love BCBG but couldn’t find anything via their website. The outlet wasn’t practical since all my girls live in different states. If you love the dress you found and it’s only $68, I say go for it!

I haven’t found bm dresses yet but I wanted to say that one of my friends found hers on the rack at Nordstrom, and another found hers at Plum (a regular clothing store too). I think it’s awesome!

These are the dresses I picked… Exactly what I was looking for, at exactly the right price. We got them from Sears for $79. They’re beautiful, chiffon with a satin sash.

My girls wore the convertible dresses from Victoria’s Secret – they came in under a week!

Like others have done, each girl picked her own black satin dress. They came from White House Black Market, Dillard’s, and Macy’s. Good luck in your search!

You girls posted some great ones! I’m thinking of just having them choose any dress they’d like in gray or pewter – I threw out that idea to them, and they all sent me a link within 3 hours of one they’d fallen in love with, and my sister had even found a funky Anthropologie headband to match hers 🙂 We’re visiting the venue today so I can make sure the colors will work!

@7SEVENJ9: How easy is it to figure out how to create the different styles on this dress? I’ve ALWAYS wanted one for myself!
