I created our registries like 10 months before the wedding just to get it done. At the time, I picked this duvet cover because I wanted to redecorate our master bedroom. I don’t know if I like it anymore though… but someone already purchased it 4 months ago. I don’t know who and we haven’t received it yet. How awful is it to return it – if we even can, I’m not sure how that will work? And how would I write a thank you card for that?

I returned a few things, mostly kitchen items that I really just didn’t need. I returned to Macy’s so I don’t know if the store matters, but all I did was bring it up and say we got a duplicate (yes I lied, but I was unsure how it would go). They pulled up my registry and gave me cash, worked out well!

A friend of mine returned tons of stuff because she still ended up with duplicates or multiples of items she registered for…like 5 of the same waffle iron. Most came with a gift reciept to the store and she was given store credit for the price the person paid. One had no gift reciept and that was more of an issue. She gave me one of the many waffle irons in the end because it was just getting too annoying to her to return them! Overall though after her returns she ended up with hundreds in store credit.
I think you’ll just have to wait and see if they include a gift reciept. If not you can always try returning it and explain the situation. I would just expect to get store credit though for most returned items.

I did. We had registered for a pattern of serving ware that my husband later admitted he hated. I felt bad about returning it, but wasn’t that attached to it so we brought it back to Macy’s.

We returned a few things because we decided we didn’t want/need them. I think it’s better to return it and purchase something you will use versus letting it just sit there.
What store is it from? Some places have awesome return policies but I see quite a few places where it needs to be returned within 90 days.

The only thing we returned was a set of glasses that were broken when they came in the mail.

It’s from the Bay, which I think is just Canadian. I don’t care about cash/store credit/etc, I just don’t want to offend whoever bought it! Though because it was soooo long ago I’m assuming it was probably one of my family members, so I would just tell them the truth. Anybody else I would feel kind of awkward I think.

We returned several things. We returned a serving dish and a knife set because we got several off registry serving dishes that a off registry knife set we couldn’t return and we didn’t need both. We also got about a third of the silverware we registered for and didn’t want to buy the rest so we returned those. We were at BB&B and had no problems with returns and we got store credit without any receipt.

I did. I also just said something like “thanks for the generous gift, we’re getting a lot of use out of it!” among other things like thanks for coming, etc. I only received store credit for my returns and I did use that store credit to get something else…so I really was getting some use out of their gift in the end.

@Pinkmoon: yeah, we plan on returning these two pillow shams we got. we *did* want the shams, but didn’t realize when we registered that we registered for the 26X26 ones instead of the rectangular ones. oops

@Pinkmoon: you can just say thank you so much for the generous gift and for coming to celebrate with us on our day, it would not have been the same without the love and support of our family and friends

I would just write a normal thank you and return it. They should at least give you store credit if you don’t have a gift receipt.
I think the only thing we returned was a set of knives. I got some really nice chef’s knives (that I didn’t really anticipate anyone buying, lol) so I didn’t really see the point of the extra block full sitting on the counter.

@Pinkmoon: I returned things. We did the majority of our registering online, so some stuff I just didn’t like when I got it. I don’t see a problem with it.
I would still write a thank you for the specific gift though.

Yes. We registered for sheets and somehow we ended up getting 3 sets. We only needed one so I returned the others lol

@Pinkmoon: I did! I registerd for kitchen items and once we actually got our home and realized what we use and dont use I ended up exchanging a few items for things I would actually use instead of it collecting dust in our cupboard
