I just started watching Extreme Engagement on netflix. Do any of you bees like the show? The premise is following an engaged couple on their journey to the some of the most intense areas of the world to explore marriage customs before they get married. Some parts of it are problematic but it is fascinating to see how the couple navigates different situations in really extreme conditions. The cool part is that they have no camera crew – it is literally just the two of them with ONE camera hand for over a year of filming and editing! I honestly don’t think I could do anything this adventurous, and I always thought of myself as fairly well-traveled. What do you guys think?

I had seen the title but hadn’t looked into it… I’ll have to check it out!

professorbride : I did watch a couple of episodes but the commentary seemed so rehearsed that it started to annoy me. I stopped watching it lol. I don’t know that I would do it just because I don’t see how it would be beneficial? Unless I absolutely wanted to explore those cultures. The whole premise seemed weird that they would do this to see if they truly want to marry each other when they’ve been together or engaged 4 years and only seen each other about 4 months out of that time?
I’m also pretty sure they have camera crew. Who is filming when they’re both in the shot? The locals? Doubtful.

professorbride : I just finished this show (teacher on summer break) and honestly felt like it was a hot mess. I couldn’t decide if the drama was scripted or if they were really getting along so poorly. The places were beautiful and the customs were cool, but the whole time I felt like PJ was being pretty fake, cold, and rude to Tim and the native people sometimes.

sydneybee4 : I read somewhere that they only took one camera hand with them, so it was just three people traveling. I wonder if that’s true? If so, it is impressive.I stopped watching it after a few episodes but mostly because I ran out of free time.
chitownyogini : There were so many cringe moments between the couple. I haven’t finished it yet but I wonder if they’ll actually end up getting married. I thought Tim was the actual worst – very chauvinistic. But I agree, I liked learning about the marriage customs around the world.

professorbride : yeah, he was being a bit of an over alpha male, but I think he was just trying to assimilate with the culture? Who knows. After watching the whole thing I don’t think they are well matched.
