I am working on my last year of nursing school and have discovered I REALLY enjoy women/children work. I have always known I want to get a graduate degree, but I have no idea which kind. So… anyone in in a program to become a certified nurse midwife? Is it a DNP program or masters level? How is it? Or if you are one, what is the job like? And how is it different from a family NP or neonate or womens health NP? It seems to me they all overlap and I don’t really know the difference. Just wondering if anyone had some input!!

Do you already have a degree in nursing?

@Eva Peron: Not yet, finishing it up in December, just kind of scoping options after the fact. Mostly because some programs require specific work exsperiance before they admit you, a nurse midwife program wants L&D, while FNP wants more pedi/med surg kind of work, ect. so since I will start looking for post grad jobs in the fall, I want to try to figure out what area I want to get the degree in so I work in the right place!

If you could start in L&D ( I know its a tough postion to get fresh out of school but I have seen some new hires) that would give you good insight!I know a CNM and she was a nurse first and then did a program. it wasn’t super crazy, so its totally doable.
I think as the NP , you would make more and have more automny. You could definately work in a OBGYN office, fertility , etc etc. Before you make the jump, you wanna make sure you love nursing and medicine and all that good stuff!
Regardless, so exciting !
