Oh I was going to say I don’t wear mine to the beach because I’m worried a strong wave could knock it off my hand or loosen the diamond from the setting, but that’s totally different than your situation. I would probably be a little leery of wearing it in that circumstance as well, and if I were going somewhere like Mexico on my honeymoon, I would probably not want to wear it there either.

@iheartyou132: I don’t have an overly expensive ring, but I DO have an extremely expensive watch (think four digits) that I was afraid to wear AT ALL.  BUT, my Fiance said if I didn’t wear it, he’d take it back! LOL!  Soooo, yeah, been wearing it ever since he gave it to me!

I also have a fairly expensive bracelet that he gave me (won’t tell me where he got it, though….) and I’m afraid of wearing it because it’s so loose on my little wrist.  So, I don’t wear it very often.  🙁

sorry you had such a bad experience with the client!  hopefully that won’t happen again!

@iheartyou132: I don’t mine when jogging. I get paranoid the prongs have come undone.

I take busses to work through Chicago, and while I am safe enough on the busses, there are times I get uncomfortable and try to hide my rings or turn the stones to the inside of my hand.

I am also afraid my clumsy self will damnage it – knock it into a wall or something.  Hehe, when I go out social dancing in it’s place I wear a mood ring that my friends’ mother gave me.

I’d probably get a little uncomfortable in those situations or in a sketchy area where I’d be on alert anyways, even with just my everyday jewelery… but I normally try to avoid those places.

@iheartyou132: I can definitely understand this. My little brother rents a room from my fiance & I. Last year he had a girlfriend we didn’t know very well that visited & had dinner at our house often. And she was alittle….. iffy, something was definitely not right. She didn’t come off as genuine to me at all & inquired just ALITTLE too much about my ring right after we got engaged. And I’m not one to be suspicous or judgemental of people I just meet. I would sometimes accidentally leave my ring in the bathroom & not think about it. One time I realized she was using the bathroom & my ring was in plain view- I made sure I had it before she left & never did that again. May have been crazy & paranoid on my part, but my brother ended up later dumping her after finding out the hard way she was thief & a liar. So I say go with your instinct!

Yes I have this issue a lot. My engagement ring is pretty large so people notice/comment on it a lot. If I know I’m going somewhere that I won’t be comfortable with my ring on then I will often just wear my wedding band, which has very tiny diamonds and is quite understated.  But If I’m unexpectedly in a place where I get uncomfortable I just flip it around so the stones are inside my hand.  I’m with you though, I would absolutely give it up.  That’s why I pay hundreds of dollars a year on insurance for it!  So I wouldn’t even think twice.  Throw the ring and run : )

I also work in social services–mentally ill adults. My diamond is fairly large and I definitely get uncomfortable when I wear it around my clients, or on the train in not-so-good neighborhoods. So I almost always do what @Moose1209 does–I turn it around. I guess I could just not wear it, but I would be sad not wearing it every day. And when it’s flipped around you can’t tell how big and sparkly it is 🙂
