We’re looking at our honeymoon options and it’s always been DH’s dream to travel to Kenya to see the wildebeest migration.
I have put an itinerary together and also added a few nights in Zanzibar on the back of the safai just to really get the most from the trip.
I was just wondering if anyone has been on safari or to Zanzibar and what your thoughts were/if you have any tips etc?

doing a “bush and beach” safari is pretty popular. What about the Kenyan coast? Logistically it will be easier and the coast is beautiful. Going on safari is actually pretty tiring, so you’ll enjoy time to relax at the beach.
Def tell the camps/lodges about your honeymoon. Many have deals (bride half off or whatever) or special surprises.

I was in Maasi Mara (Kenya) for safari a few years ago. It was amazing. We slept in tents but we had mattresses and hot water, the electricity was intermittant at best. It was a long journey from Nairobi and we were up before sunrise both days in order to get into the reserve. I was lucky to see the ‘big 5’ as not everyone does. Driving around all day in the jeeps over rough terrain isn’t terribly comfortable…so I agree it will be nice to head to the beach to relax afterwards. I wasn’t in Zanzibar myself, but heard it was fab.

I haven’t done a safari myself but have been to Tanzania. It’s awesome but definitely not a relaxing trip. Also remember to factor in the expense of a pretravel medical consultation, vaccines, and malaria medications that often times are not covered by insurance.

Choose your time of year wisely. I built in a side trip to Zanzibar off a work trip to Dar last April, and it rained the entire time.

An agency I often uses specializes in African Safaris and can put some cusom ones together or small group vacations. They have some great suggestions on their website, but best to talk to them too… http://www.downunder-travel.com/africa/luxury-zimbabwe-vacation.aspx
