I’ve been to Catalina but I don’t know that I would recommend it for a honeymoon (unless you guys are SCUBA divers).  There really isn’t a whole lot out there to do and from what I saw, there aren’t any “upscale” accomodations like you’re looking for.  Everything is pretty much geared towards providing the basics.

Catalina is lovely for a day trip, but it isn’t somewhere I would honeymoon to (unless I was really into diving or fishing).  If you want to get out of San Diego, maybe check up the coast (Laguna Beach, Santa Barbara, etc.)

My family has gone to Catalina every year for a week since I was born. I think it’s a great place for a mini-moon! The most luxurious place you will find is the Inn on Mt. Ada (aka the Wrigley Mansion). You can’t beat this view!
