I loved it. It’s really beautiful and interesting! You sort of need to do the basic tour to get a good view of the property and the background story if you’re not very familiar, but all the good stuff is on the additional tours. 😉 I’ve taken the garden tour and I really want to do the upstairs one next time!

I’d definitely recommend a visit there if you’re going to be in the area.  However, you can’t exactly wander around the place.  There are several different tour packages that you can take which can get kind of pricey.  But if you love looking at old paintings and architecture, it’s worth the visit.

I went there with my family when I was 16 and looking at colleges in California.  It was fantastic.

It’s a pretty neat old place. I loved the pools/bath house the best!  BUT, they don’t let you touch anything or explore anything on your own, lol.  The nearby coastal town of Cambria is super cute and quaint, too. 🙂

It’s a fun little day trip – make sure you take a tour.  What’s your definition of ‘cool’, though?  Some people may find it to be a bit too sleepy for their tastes.  It’s an interesting tour, though.  If you like wine tasting, it would be fun to visit Paso Robles and make Hearst a side day trip.  Also lovely is the Santa Ynez valley (just south) or, Monterey is a great spot, northbound.

I enjoyed going, but it’s like a house museum with lots of people and lines and picnic tables and stuff.  The stories behind where all the furniture came from are cool though…not exactly my idea of a honeymoon destination, but if it’s your only time in the area it’s cool.

I went while on a family trip when I was 14 and loved it. However you aren’t allowed to wander on your own.

In that area, the local missions are great to see. Also, Cannery Row in Monterey is fun.

It is really a neat place!

In the area (about a mile or two away), be sure to stop and have a look at the giant elephant seal colony, it is amazing!
