HI, I’ve actually been to both places!

Lisbon is really beautifu, and there is historical things there to see. You can visit the Christopher Columbus Monument which is really cool, and there is a Castle there, that I went to, but can’t remember the name. Other than just shopping and seeing different towns, don’t know what else to reccommend.

Funchal is a really, really unique town to visit. Absolutely beautiful. There a lot of just small towns there to walk around/eat etc.

Hope this helps!

I went there when I studied abroad and it was gorgeous. I loved Lisbon a lot, but Cascais and Obidos were amazing, too.

Be sure to get some Pastel de nata – they’re delicious!

I’ve wanted to go to Lisbon for forever, but a travel agent told me it was a ghost town and very boring.

@FoxyBride14:  dont beleive everything your TA says.

Lisbon is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It has the highest average temperature in europe & Portugal is the most affordable western european country. And like another bee mentioned, you Pastel de Nata is a must!

@Nic01:  Thanks for that information! I really, really, really want to see Lisbon! My Fiance was on the fence about it and what my travel agent said made him not want to go now! He was like see I told you! It’s over-rated. blah. I’m going to do some more research.

@FoxyBride14:  Please do. Portugal is a beautiful country with so much to offer. If Fiance isn’t too keen on Lisbon, make it a side trip to wherever you go in europe. If he enjoys Port, head to POrto where they actually make it. Sun? Down south through the Algarve…can be very touristy, but Lagos is one of my fav places in the world. Let us know how you go!

@Morganmime:  I’ve been to Lisbon, though it was a port of call on our Cruise, so I haven’t explored it extensively. We went to the oldest winery in Portugal, saw the Christo-Rei and went to the Arrabida Natural Park; which has breathtaking views.

The city itself, is rather dirty and run down – our tour guide said all the beautiful/interesting things and places are outside of Lisbon city.

Go to Portugal…I can’t wait to visit again someday!  Lisbon is a very lively city with lots of culture and awesome food (+1 for Pastel de Nata…you should go to the place where they were invented, just outside Lisbon).  Also, I would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend going to Lagos in the Algarve.  It’s a few hours from Lisbon by train and sooo worth it for the beach, outdoor activity, and the amazing scenery – google it!
