Within the last year I’ve been getting these horrific bruises. It’s like I lightly bump into something and end up with a black/purple welt (that literally hurts). This has not always been the case, maybe just within the last year or so. Does anyone know why something like this would start occurring?

I get horrible bruises and I usually have no idea how :/ but I have a brittle bone disease and bruising easily is just a side effect so I’m no help sorry though! And hope you figure it out soon!

Heck yes. It’s absolutely insane.
ETA: No idea why I do though.

YES. But I finally realized the other day it’s because I keep running into my coffee table and forgetting about it.

I’ve always bruised easily. Bad enough that as a kid I was screened for leukemia (did NOT have it). But a sudden change like that is worth mentioning to a doctor.

I tend to bruise like crazy if I’m not getting enough vitamin C. I mean, like bruises the size of a baseball on my thigh.

@KTBanana: Good article, thanks for sharing. I was starting to feel like something was wrong with me! I’m 27, so this could easily make sense. Can’t act (or drink! ) like a 21 year old anymore! 😉
@strawbabies: Another great point. I actually avoid Vitamin C as oranges and/or orange juice are a trigger for coldsores for me. Might need to get back on the daily vitamin train.
Thanks ladies. It’s nice to hear I’m not the only one (although I feel bad for you gals too!).

Vitamin C aids in the absorption of iron…maybe there is a correlation?
PS: I’m going to be 28 in a few months so I feel your pain! 🙁

Sometimes. It’s embarassing. My mom bruises too.

My sister does and always has, but I think a sudden change like that is definitely worth mentioning to your doctor.

My Fiance and I always joke that I “bruise like a peach”. I’m also super clumsy, which doesn’t help, and my skin is so pale that everything shows up. Not the best combination. 🙂
I’ve always bruised easily though. I used to give blood a lot and I would have a bruise before I left the donation center.
