We are holding the reception on our own. We are having around 150 guests… we could rent chairs in the area, or we have discussed buying them used if the price was right (we have seen some rental businesses close shop and sell items on criagslist).
Anyone have luck purchasing linens, chair covers, tables… whatever and were able to turn around and sell them? Did you get your money back? Did you make money?

I looked into it and it was pretty easy to find places that were about the same cost as rentals, but my big concern was ironing, transporting, putting them on during set up, removing at end of night, laundering, etc. We are 2 hours away from our wedding site though and I didn’t want to ask many friends/family to help. Also, we may be able to get in the day before but it isn’t guaranteed.
I think it could work if you have lots of space to hang linens, patience to iron them, and they are a material that can be laundered at home. And if you can set up the day before and have lots of help, and can tear down the day after. But if you have to pay a drycleaner (they will come folded with creases), and all that other stuff – might not be worth it.
i look at the cost as paying for the labor/manpower, not for the linens.
