So I got my dress at a sample sale last winter… I know, I shouldn’t have settled on it so quickly! It’s not that I don’t like it… just don’t LOVE IT! I didn’t pay a fortune for it but instead of trying to sell it or tossing it, I’m considering some alterations to make it a little more my style. Here’s my dress:
It’s Ivory Organza with a mauve taffeta sash. It has antique beading on the bow of the sash.
Right now it’s a straight across strapless (never ever thought I would get strapless!) I kinda wanna see if I can alter it to be sweetheart– has anyone done this? Please share pics!!!
Also, I kinda wanna add thick halter straps like my BMs will be wearing in the Alfred Angelo 7016 in mocha
THOUGHTS? OPINIONS? Can this be done?!

I’m making my strapless dress a sweetheart. I posted on this several weeks back as a poll, asking whether everyone liked it better straight across or sweetheart (I photoshopped the changes for the poll)

I think that with your dress it would be easy to alter it into a sweetheart neckline since there is not a lot of detailing in the chest area. I actually like the dress as is and wouldn’t change anything. But I think that if you wanted to add a halter strap you should keep the neckline straight.

I think your dress is beautiful the way it is! but if you aren’t completely happy with it, change it! My girlfriend changed her neckline to a sweetheart, and it looked awesome. I think its actually pretty easy to do.

I think that would work just fine with both a sweetheart neckline and straps. It looks lovely on you.

Thank you so much for the advice (and compliments )! I just didn’t know how hard it would be to alter… it seems simple enough but didn’t know if anyone had some experience.
I think that if I added something to it that’s my own style I might be a little more excited about it. I guess I could try to play with what it could look like at home… maybe just take some thick satin ribbon and pin it in to see how it would look with straps. I’m just pretty self conscious about my arms and thought the halter style would be flattering… or maybe a cap sleeve lace shrug?

i love how it looks unaltered =)
i think everyone has thoughts of changing their dress somehow or another, but what is most important is how you feel about the dress!! =D i altered my zipper back to a corset and added colored ribbon, for example.
what color is that sash? it looks really nice!!
