- Wedding: November 2014
Moral of this story: Do it yourself or make sure you gat a dang trial!!I was going to buy some new MAC products and do my makeup and hair myself but I wanted to relax so I hired someone, follow your gut!
So I hired a hair and makeup artist for the wedding by the recommendation of a family friend. All my communication with the woman was amazing, I shared pictures of the hair and makeup I wanted. She seemed very knowledgable, had a great bakground and education for both hair and make up and since she was recommended I trusted her skills without a trial (HUGE HUGE HUGE MISTAKE!!!)
Day of the wedding she shows up, does everyones make up, except mine until last and all the make up turned out AMAZING. The she started on the girls hair, by adding in soft curlers on already dry hair. I should have known this was a big no no. She had no hot curlers and the girls hair was not wet at all. She slathered all the girls hair with product and hair spray and put in the sofr curlers and let everyone sit for an hour or so. Then she added some curlers to my hair and added a TON of product.
I had previously sent her e-mail letting her know NOT to put any product in my hair as my hair is really thick and any type of product actually makes my hair so it wont hold curls. She ignored this, added the curlers and sprayed a bunch of stuff on it that wasnt a normal hairspray. I called her out on this and she said it was fine. She did my makep and that was at least amazing. By the time she got to my hair….it all went downhill. I wanted a half up half down, with my bangs sweeping my face, and a slight poof in the back part that was up. I wanted it pulled back soft and smooth.
Instead she made a GIANT rats nest in the back of my head the included no less than 30 bobby pins of varrying sizes. First off, if you are going to do a rats nest (teasing beyond all recognition) you need to make sure you are pulling a layer of hair over it to smooth it out and hide it. Secondly, no half of half down style this simple needs that many bobby pins. It wasnt even a bumped half up half down, it was just knotted and lumpy and a rats nest.
Honestly I dont even know how she thought this was a good look, there is no way she didnt realize it was terrible. it wasnt even a romantic messy look it was like I had just woken up out of bed. None of my curls stayed after she took the curlers out except for like 2 in the back so i had half flat half curled hair. The whole thing was all around bad. It literally took her over an hour, what it would have taken me maybe 20 minutes.
By now we were running late. She put so many boby pins my veil wouldnt even go into my head. It was such an amateur hair style. I could have honestly done better myself. She then charged me a full $225 for hair and make up…..no joke. I paid her the moeny walked away and went into the bathroom yelling at my mother to help me fix my hair and take out all these pins. My mother, and all my bridesmaids thought it looks not just slightly bad, but embarrassingly bad. We didn’t have time to fix it because the photographer arrived and we literally had to leave 10 minutes later. So all night and even walking down the aise i was uncomfortable and embarassed by my really expensive, really shotty hair style. I am starting to think the woman actually had ZERO experience with hair. I haven’t had to guts to tell her that her hair styles suck…… Just need to vent I suppose.
Anyone else have terrible hair and make up experience???
Take a look at my $225 hair and make up!!!!
