Oh man… Yes I had a lady that was meant to be awesome at make up…. I ended up looking so gross it was awful. Thankfully it was at the trial as I have got someone new. goes to show you can’t trust references and their claims of so called experience . I have never had such patchy drag queen make up in all my life

Footballwife:  I’m sorry it didn’t turn out the way you wanted and I can see why you weren’t happy with it, but I think you looked beautiful!

I had my hair done similarly to yours actually.  For whatever reason, we ran late during the getting ready portion and we sort of rushed through my hair.  I actually didn’t even know what the back looked like until I got my photos!  I have very long thick hair and even though it held during the trial, the curls didn’t last for me on the day of either so my hair was getting flat by the time the reception started.

I do wish it looked better after seeing photos, but honestly I was so happy at the time that I didn’t care.

I don’t know if telling her would help since you didn’t do a trial, but hopefully it didn’t ruin your day too much.  You look so happy in the photos!

Footballwife:  As a hair stylist myself, I’ll emphasize to anyone who reads this thread that a trial is really important, not only so you can see if you like the stylist’s work, but so that the stylist has a chance to see what your hair will and won’t do, how it holds curl, and how it responds to certain tools and products. Unless you are booking someone extremely well-reputed (as in, their work is on TV and in magazines), it’s insanity to not do a trial (and even then, I still would!).

However, looking at your photos, it looks like you’re probably correct that this woman is actually a make-up artist who is also trying to do hair but isn’t really trained in it. Is it possible that the friend who referred you to her only used her make-up services and not hair?

Footballwife:  ugh that is so frustrating! At this point there’s really nothing you can do but leave a review on her website or any wedding website to warn other future clients. Reviews were a big help when i was picking my hairstylist and im sure other brides would want to know. To be honest though, you still look really beautiful in the pictures even if it wasn’t what you were envisioning.

Footballwife:  I totally feel ya! I was 100% not happy with my hair and ended up throwing it up in a messy bun during the reception. I could have done a much better job for free. I also wasn’t happy with my makeup. It was partly my fault because I had a trial that went really well (except she didn’t have a foundation light enough) but I decided that I really wanted winged eye liner a couple days before the wedding. Turns out she wasn’t that great at winged liner and it looked pretty bad. Looking back I wish I would have just done both myself since I can curl my hair just fine and I’m pretty damn good at makeup. I also told myself that I “wanted to relax” and not deal with the “hassel” of doing it myself. Lesson learned.

Oh no!!!! You look really pretty though! Sorry it wasn’t the way you wanted it to be. Thanks for the advice though!

applecat:  I agree with this. Everyone’s hair is so different, so without a trial a stylist is gonna go by what she knows. Honestly I’ve never in my life heard of someone’s hair not holding a curl because of product, and not to say that’s not the case with OPs hair, but it’s pretty strange and she probably assumed you hadn’t used the “right” products.

Definitely get trials

Oh man this sucks. Sorry you went through this. Honeslty you look beautiful but I can see what u are saying. Can you send these photos to the makeup person and request a partial refund? Or at least an apology or acknowledgement that she screwed up? Might make u feel better.

I had three trials with 3 different people before the wedding .. And even after that I was very unhappy with my hair .. And not completely satisfied with my make up ..it has been almost one year since our wedding and I still want to cry when looking at some wedding photos ..

I am truly sorry you had to go through this on your weddig day ..I hope you will have enough of great pictures that were taken from good angles .. And your hair looks good on them ..

Sounds like my day-off hair, and I even had a trial lol. I still wish I had done my own.

At christmas after our wedding my mom was like “your hair looks so nice…you should have done that for your wedding.” Sigh. All I did was curl/wave it with a curling wand lol.
